The jacket that MJ is wearing here, I've always called garments like this
baseball jackets. Fabric body, contrasting leather sleeves, popper fastening, knitted cuffs and bottom with contrasting stripe and the large letter, are the distinguishing features that make it a baseball jacket for me. I think 'Happy Days', 'Grease' and possibly 'High School Musical' when I see this type of jacket. I've never really used the term 'varsity', but then I'm not an American.
