The buttons on the pants say Polo but I've never seen the tag on the jacket. Is it actually PRL?

It's NWOT and unhemmed, grabbed it off the Bay for a steal. 100% Linen

I dont know 100% but:

Before Purple and Black Label, there was a "Blue" label that was apparently RL's top line. That suit must be from then, and around 15years old.

I do not know for sure though, but I have seen this before a long time ago.

yeah i think it is Blue Label. Check the inside pocket int he jacket there should be some info you may be able to verify it with Polo.

I will check all the inner tags when I get the suit. I figured it was a safe buy since the pants buttons say POLO, plus I've been looking for a 100% linen suit for a while now. Getting it unhemmed and supposedly NWOT for under $100 is a nice perk

Edit: Here is a link to the auction. I wonder if this label could be added to the RL thread defining labels. Then again I would guess it doesn't come up often... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_6958wt_1139

Nope, this RL line is long defunct and these suits only pop up on eBay or in thrift stores as second hand items.

Looks to be from the same line as this suit: http://www1.yoox.com/item/YOOX/RALPH...sr_clearance80 Also, regarding the polo buttons: don't read too much into that. The suit has belt loops, so brace buttons were clearly an afterthought (as opposed to the suit coming that way) and I'm sure that's what they happened to have sitting around the RL store at the time. Several of my RLBL suits have Polo buttons for the braces since the suits don't come with brace buttons and that's what the tailor likely had extras of that day.

Hmmmm, the plot thickens. Yoox only deal with new releases correct? I though RL cancelled those lines of suits an epoch ago - did they then reinvent them recently? If so, why no RL fan posting something interesting on this forum?

I remember those, I think some of them came under Polo University Label. They were good suits discontinued sometime in early 90's. I still have one of them in my wardrobe with very wide lapels, single vent, and really thick wool.

this is just an old top of the line PRL (or whatever they call it back then), also back in the days most dress pants would have brace buttons by default whether there were bell loop on it or not.

As to the Yoox one, could it be something that has been sitting around for 15 years in some middle of america outlet before it gets to Yoox for all we know

It would have been gone relatively quickly had it went to Woodbury Commons...

Though honestly no idea, the oldest stuff I have seen from Yoox (that I can identify) is 5~6 years old...

or at least they were all dual vents..., but yeah I agree with, had to let it go so many times on ebay because of the lapel size. Though if you look at the Garrison fit guess ridiculous wide lapel is back again (personally don't like it, would prefer something in between Bradford and Garrison on lapel width).

You're right, come to think of it back in the late 90s I had some slacks from Jos. A Bank that came with the brace buttons installed...

As for the Yoox one, I saw it when I was poking through the deep clearance section. Those items won't even pop up when you look under the designer labels on the front page (while their regular sale stuff does) so it wouldn't surprise me if this had been sitting a while. Also, a lot of their stuff doesn't actually come from US stores so I wonder if it's possible they used this label longer in other markets.

the tag says its the blue label/signature line or top of the polo line. i don't think rl discontinued the line in the 90s. wasn't it early 2000s?

they were so well made. some styles had unsewn cuff buttons for customization. great stuff! i still see them NWT every once in a while.
