is the leather attached or a separate jacket?
its actually the nylon jacket I have in my sig for sale, not leather. just layered, no attached
post #439 of 514
ok, so this is where I am right now with this thing. I need to remove about an inch from the edge of the shoulder of the yellow jacket, and I need to change the buttons to black. I may also add one or two more buttons and get some waist suppression...

DId you use some spray paint specifically for clothes?
Nope, I used krylon fusion in matte black.
I made a shirt last year with the same paint and I've washed it many times and it hasn't faded

How hard do you think it will be to install zippers into a hoodie? I have a couple old ones lying around and want to try and make something like this http://cultureshoq.com/balmain-hoodie/ . What do you think?
not terribly hard. first of all you would need a zipper foot on your sewing machine. then you would need zippers and basic threading. cut out a line in that shape along side the sweatshirt, leaving the excess fabric then stitch the zipper by the tape by folding over the existing jersey fabric. it probably sounds convoluted on here, just google how to add zippers or something

Thanks! I don't have a sewing machine though frown.gif I'm going to check how hard it is to hand-stitch a zipper on, though I'm guessing the end result won't be as good......

Felt elbow patches
(an experiment)

Nothing spectacular, but perhaps interesting for some.

After a failed search for suede elbow patches (I found an American supplier, but they don't ship to NL),
I thought felt might work as a subsitute for suede.

Sweater with holes

Prefab patches, bought for the sizes. I didn't like the shape (or material), so I changed it:

Traced:

Rounded the whole shape:

Voilà:

After some erasing:

Scanned:

Copied in PS:

Pinned on sweater:

Not even worth doing imo. A zipper needs a hefty amount of tension in order to stay on a garment, especially if you want it to be usable. Try taking it in to a tailor and see if they can do it for a reasonable amount, otherwise I don't know if its worth your time (just being honest)

Like it, however I cant believe you had trouble finding elbow patches. Theyre everywhere over here, but usually come in a faux suede or leather (which works fine). Even as an added benefit, most have prestamped holes so you can stitch directly into the patch by hand. Curious as to why you chose to handstitch? Is it because you wouldve had to undo the sleeve in order to machine sew on the elbow patch? Though it looks fine, you mightve been able to get closer to the edge of the patch with a nice sewing machine and some patience.

Faux suede can be found here (see second pic), but I didn't want that. I haven't seen them in leather; that would have been an option, though I prefer non-shiny, if you know what I mean. 'We' (the cutting, pinning and stitching were done by Mrs. NOBD) followed the distance to the edge of the prestamped patches, but you're right: we should have gone closer to the edges—lesson for next time. The felt doesn't need holes, btw, you can easily stitch through it. I don't know why she did it by hand; perhaps/probably because of the reason you mention.
