gesso is usually used for priming stuff like canvas for art, and is basically glue and paint. much thicker than acrylic and impossible to remove off cloth after it sets in. usually comes in black or white only, although you could mix the two to get various shades of gray. i used multiple thin layers + dry brush strokes on the shoes.

painted all black chucks with black gesso paint a while ago. inspired by the mmm painted gats and the drkshdw hogwash denim. subtle and adds a distressed waxed/matte black look to it.

lol so much better than my ones!

You can always add more bleach to your water bath. I left these folded up in a bucket for about 3 days, and refreshed the water/bleach mixture about 3 times.Gold leaf Mezlan lace-upsSoaked/distressed F+B bootsOther things have included button downs with the sleeves removed, shredded AA tanks, and who knows what else. I'll be sure to try some more stuff this summer, including (hopefully) the incredibly late completion of the fremen cloak.

thinking about painting my skinny 511s white. think they'd look pretty rad as the white wore off and they faded back to blue (reverse fade n&f concept). I'd wear with my blue baron wells shirt and dbs.

how do you plan to paint them mikey?
No clue, I thought of this in the middle of my 3 hour bike ride today haha. didn't someone paint a denim jacket earlier in this thread? the only thing I'm worried about is that they might be really hot and not breathe at all.
They will indeed be very hot and not breathe at all. They will also fit tighter because they are so stiff. I imagine biking in them would help speed with the breaking in process, but they would be pretty uncomfortable at first.
I mean, they're $20 levis that I don't really wear anymore so if I mess them up it's not a huge deal at all.

Paint flaking off jeans is not a good look. Rethink your idea and maybe you can come up with something more practical.

There were pretty cool painted jeans by Helmut, i think AR6 has them

Edit: turns out he's selling them, you can see them here:
