Where can I get this glen check sportcoat?

Hello everybody,

I just saw this stunning sportcoat at The Sartorialist and: I want it!

Normally I don't like typical glen checks (black and white with blue only), because I think they look a bit too "cold". I normally don't like glen check sportcoats, also. As Suits they please me more. But this combination of a white/black/blue/brown glen check with mid-grey flannel trousers is fantastic.

Do you know where I can get a glen check like this? I fear this look wouldn't work with normal glen checks. What do you think? I own a black/white with red glen check suit 3/2. Could I combine it with a light blue shirt, a solid dark red tie and midgrey flannels?

All over again.

I think I've seen something similar from Isaia -- wait, yes, ehaberdasher has something a little close-- and if your budget stretches to custom/mtm or bespoke, you shouldn't have a problem sourcing similar material.

I have several glen check sportcoats, in various colorations, and they all work well with gray trousers.

Also keep in mind that it is a good idea to get something like that once one has may other sportcoats. No one is going to forget that jacket after you wear it once and you don't want people coming up to you and saying "weren't you wearing that last week"

It's not my first sportcoat, but in view of the fact I do not own a glencheck sportcoat, it would be worth an attempt.
Any suggestions, where I could buy a similar sportjacket or isn't there an alternative to mtm?

And you could say, "That must have been one of my other glen plaid sport coats."

I don't know if this is what you have in mind, but Brooks Bros offered this in camel hair a year or two ago. A little digging might scare one up (picture from an ebay auction):

That's nearly the way my glen plaid suit looks, but only without the brown stripes. It's vintage, tailored on Savile Row and fits me really good, but I didn't know how to combine it.
What do you think: Is it a good idea with a light blue double cuff shirt, burgundy-red full brogue oxfords, a dark red solid tie and a white pocketsquare?

I found a glen plaid sportcoat at Brooksbrothers main page, that looks nearly the same, but I didn't find an offer at their homepage...

But it looks like I have to go mtm, if I want this type of glen plaid, mhm?

What exactly is the definition of glen plaid? Just a very fine plaid?

In Germany we'd say 'Glencheck' or 'Prince-of-Wales-Check' - and I thought that it is the same, what's called glen plaid in American English.

Have a look at the pictures in this thread, they all have these different white/black squares in common, sometimes red, blue or brown windowpanes or stripes are added.

What you describe sounds like a nice combination. I fear you're overthinking things, however.

Here's what I wore with my Brooks glen plaid camel hair, shoes are country grain full brogues, trousers are brown cords:

As for what Glen plaid is, I refer you to this thread, from which I quote manton on the subject:

Glen plaid and glen check are simply short (and interchangeable) names for glenurquhart plaid (or check), perhaps the most famous and popular of all the Scottish "district checks."

This is often called "prince of wales" plaid because if it's popularity with the PoW who became Edward VIII. However, there is a true "prince of wales" plaid, which is a specific version of glen plaid. It's large in scale, the colors are rust, cream, and dark gray, and it has a dark blue border check. You don't see it often, and it is striking. I seem to recall that, according to the strictest rules of propriety, you have to be Prince of Wales to wear it. Or a member of his household. Or something like that.
