Bottom of tie showing when jacket buttoned

Hi,

I wear a lot of two button suits, and if I button the top buton, my tie is often left showing.

On one suit I can put this down to how well I have eaten (!) on the other more recent suit, i wouldn't say that's the case.

Is this just a usual thing? For me there seems something wrong.

It's expected of any trouser with a low rise.

Often means that either your tie is too long or the jacket's buttoning point is too high. Can you see the belt buckle and maybe some shirt below the buttoning point when buttoned? If yes, it's too high.

I'd argue in this day and age, it's usually that the rise of the pants is (far) too low.

...or the quarters are cut too open (as in: incorrectly), or the waist is too snug, which can pull the jacket open at the bottom.

I don't have these issues normally, but I often find that when it's windy, the wind tends to blow my jacket open at the bottom, which looks anything but smart.

What they're trying to say is that when one wears low-riding pants, then the tie would show because one would still tie his tie to reach the buckle. But all they're saying here is that the tie is tied too long. Goes back to the two main issues I mentioned.

Hard to say since we cannot see the trousers waist or belt. But clearly the quarters are not too open. Tie is probably tied too long.

Assume you're not wearing a tie, or a very short one (or a bow tie for that matter).
Does your shirt show anywhere between waist button and pant's waist?

Hard to say but looks like the tie is a tad long.
I think the rule of thumb is hit the waist band (with normal fitting pants), but rather go shorter than longer.

I think you are referring to whether one wears his pants on the hips or waist...which does not necessarily dictate rise (ie you can wear pants with an 18" rise on your waist).

Looking at the picture I think gdl and Redwood got it right. Too high of a button stance and the jacket is binding in the middle pulling the quarters opem.
