Think I'm Taking the Plunge: WoW Cataclysm - Page 3

Uggh I lost so much of my life to mmo's, specifically Everquest and EQ2 in 1999 - 2005. If you're in a sucky marriage, I can see the pull. If you have ANYTHING better to do with your life than devote XX hours a week to a game . . . do it. There is a really strong compulsive drive to play -- be it for the shineys, or the mere fact that it's an escape from reality. I've been away from it for a solid 6+ years and still feel the cravings when I go back to my old guild's message board

That pic reminds me of a well known choad from EQ. I think his name was Frank. He seemed to have some serious cash, I'm thinking trust fund baby. He had this insane set up where he would six box. Yes, six EQ accounts, six computers, and he would show pics of this sort of space ship like lounge seating where he would sit for days playing EQ. I can remember he started calling Fuor out (arguably the greatest tank EQ ever had) and saying his six-tet could take Fuor. Well, yeah, duh.

It was odd but he seemed to have bank and was oddly happy. He would even post pics of not bad looking chics, in skimpy attire, in his computer hive. Might have been commercial company but who knows?

I think you mean Furor leader of FOH? lol wonder what became of him

Furor was hired by Blizzard to be the lead quest designer for World of Warcraft And Tigole, the Legacy of Steel guildmaster, was also hired to play some role in designing the game. Kind of cool that by being intelligently outspoken and beating the shit out of a video game can land you an incredible job. Being a huge nerd can pay off.

Anyway, I play Cata and all I do is arena/battleground with a handful of RL buds. If you're into the PVE aspect of it there's a ton of flexibility with raiding now. Raids are split into 10 man and 25 but both raid types drop the exact same loot. Its very token based as well so you're not gonna go 2 months without getting a piece. Frankly, I think the Cata zone/end design is the worst of them all because once you're level 85 (it takes a few days) there are only a few zones that you'll spend time in - the capital city (Org, Ironforge) being the place you spend 90% of it in because EVERYTHING in the end game is queueable/teleported to from wherever you are. Everything is so mindlessly convenient and easy... aint like EQ was.

Furor is Alex Afrasiabi. http://www.wowwiki.com/Alex_Afrasiabi

He was pretty good at trolling whiny kids on the official forums under the name valnoth.

This is why I quit so often. Got two accounts started opening weekend of vanilla WoW (Thanksgiving 04) and quit when MC was farm. Went back for BC and quit again. Ditto WotLK. I'm sure I'll quit Cata after about six-8 months.

The nice thing about it being so easy is a well run guild of adults can raid two nights a week and get shit done. We all know what EQ could be like when a cockblocking spawn was required to progress or when a wipe meant a bad CR.

Thanks for the Cata write up.

this is why i quit. too boring, too easy. i miss punitive vanilla wow. everything is balanced by spreadsheet now, so item upgrades are only like 1-2% better. theres so little incentive to do anything for such small gains...

Lulz. Vanilla WoW was easy juice compared to vanilla EQ. EQ didn't start getting some spoon fed features until PoP, like GYs and instance'ing but many events were still way, way, way more difficult than 90% of WoW (only WoW event I can think of was when a major end game one was broken...four horsemen maybe? Been years now.).

Btw, Sam was a choad (as I said in my first mention of him) but I still say the guy seemed to have some form of independent cash flow. Could be wrong, and I don't really care, but his other actions doesn't mean he wasn't financially set.

I know that if I ever got into computer gaming I'd never escape. I know it would be a blast, at least initially, but like smoking, I use good judgement to never start.
