calculating minimum calories for dieting - Page 3

There are a few possibilities. One is that you gained a few pounds of muscle, which balanced out any fat you lost. Another is that you might be accidentally underestimating the caloric energy of a food item in your diet. Third is that you might get the whoosh effect: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat...uishy-fat.html But in any case, you're on the right track. I'd keep doing what you're doing and evaluate again in a month. These things take time to get right and figure out what works for you.

thanks for the replies everyone. Nicola, to be fair that was the maintenance requirement for a sedentary day rather than a day that I'd be active, so my deficit is even greater. I just struggle to get all these calories in!

I'm going to go read about whooshing.

I had a lot of success with the mynetdiary app. It calculates what your daily caloric intake should be depending on your age, weight, and activity (or sedentary!) statuses. I basically run so I can eat more. I'm about 5'6" and 142 but am an old man (31), so need to be aggressive with tracking my calories, etc.
