Really? I could taste the difference between Rochefort 10, Chimay Blue, and St. Bernadus 12 when I had them. Different mouth feels, too.

now this is a find. Not only have you discovered the only distributor of Westy in the world, but you've also discovered their "10" (which I've never heard of) and also their magnum bottle, which is odd because I've never heard of them ever making anything other than a 330.

If you want to make a quick $10,000 you should buy up their entire stock <- this line contains no sarcasm

Westvleteren is unlike anything else I've ever had and I've had ALOT of beers. Most of BA's top 50.

Anyway, the spammer above me had the best post in this thread.

It may be the 330ml size but its larger than a regaulr bottle of beer. I don't like the beer and the number designates something, i think alcohol but not sure.

You need to stop posting. A standard beer is 12 ounces. 330 ml is 11.2 ounces.

You have three options:
1.) Pick it up from the monetary
2.) Trade for it on BA or something
3.) Get raped on eBay. Belgian Beer Shop, etc.

You won't find it at Whole Foods or BevMo.

Thank you for reiterating this entire thread. I already know these options, but I was wondering if there were any that I did not know of, which is why I made this thread. I was wondering specifically if there was any way I could avoid grey market mark-ups, but even in a trade, I would end up covering for the mark-up with the cost of the beers I trade. I asked ed how he got his just because I was curious which route he ended up choosing.

You have 4 options now:

1. Pre-buy at the monastery via long-distance phone, travel 2000 miles, and be limited to one case of 24 bottles.
2. Buy on ebay for $180 for a six pack
3. Scour craft breweries for months for rare other beers with value in excess of $40 in order to exchange for 1 bottle of Westy (this way you will spend 2 additional months of your life in order to save $15)

OR

4. According to this thread, stroll into any Whole Foods in San Francisco, CA, USA with at least $7.49 in your pocket, or click on BevMo's special "Westvleteren 12 Alert" button featured on their website.

I don't think that you can pre-buy at the monastery. I think its first come first serve from what I've been told by people who have done it.

This. They won't even know what it is.

BA is probably your best bet if you don't want to pay for it, but you better have some good **** that someone wants to trade for

not really. You can (and most of the time have to) preorder up to two cases to be picked up at the monastery, you just have to leave your tel. nr. and car licenseplate. After that you will be given a specific time frame when to pick up your case. Im not sure how this works for international orders, or that they even do it...

First come first serve was some time ago, but for some of the beers (like the 8 blonde) the production is large enough at times that they will sell it like on the spot without reservations.

Last time I went there was this fall and the sixpacks do exist, they are sold in the gift shop of the adjacent (and also owned by the monastery) restaurant. Magnums i have not seen...

Perhaps ill do another pilgrimage there soon, in which case ill report here again (its only a 2 hour drive from where i live).
