CP, there's a lot of that, especially on the West Side, BH and WeHo.

The LA description seemed right for what I saw of it. As a whole its denizens are the least friendly and most self possessed people that I've ever met. I expect to be in LA again in the near future and look forward to finding out that it was a bad first impression.

A large subset of LA people are like this. The problem with LA is it's so diverse and spread out and everybody drives so what you see will be the most stereotypical flashy types, especially in the more touristy areas ( Westside, the Beaches, etc). There is a very cool scene (and has been growing in the last 10 years ) of awesome people in LA who are nothing like the stereotype but unfortunately it's one of those things where you have to know someone.

We all just think you're Chinese, so you get theirs.

Larry Hagman sounds like a Texan about as much as I sound like a New Yorker.

There's not one single oil or gas well in Dallas County. Or any cattle ranches. Or any cactus (other than the random ornamental that won't last). Or any rattlesnakes (coyotes, raccoons, opossum, etc). On the other hand, Los Angeles County (California) has all of these.

98% of Texas' population is urban. That's higher than most Northern states.

In mainland, TW are stereotyped as abusive factory bosses who pay low wages and work workers to the bone in the worst conditions.

I think that depends on who you met, though the recent ones have a stronger Taiwanese identity than before, and some of that leads to a distaste to certain behavior on mainland. I wouldn't call it "culture" though. To me culture is something deeply rooted, passed on through generation. What you see in China now is a representation of the past 50 years, doesn't mean much in 5000 years of history.

I was raised up in different times. Pretty much right at the end of generation where we were still being propaganda ed to one day land to mainland so we can regime change and liberate the Chinese people.

Factory worker is probably one, the other one is Taiwanese man are honey as hell...

Larry Hagman is from Fort Worth.

As far as the stereotypes that have a basis in truth: when people say that Dallas is all shallow, materialistic Republican yuppies, I always want to say "you mean other than the 70% that is black or hispanic, right?" These stereotypes are based on a small portion of the city, basically north of 30 between 35 and 75.

The southern ranch culture has little to do with an actual ranch at this. It's specific mannerisms that it refers to that are noticeably different than other areas (with the exception of a few other spots in the south).

Coyotes and raccoons are everywhere. I have no clue about rattlesnakes outside of central Texas, but they (and cactuses) are all over here.

Austin, Dallas and to some extent SA have neutral accents. Parts of Houston do to. The rest are fairly pronounced.

There are definitely coyotes in the Dallas area. not as much in the city center but in the suburbs there are quite a few.
