what is your favorite solid blue shirt - Page 2

I like a shade or two darker than pale ice blue. I also don't like greenish blues (that have a luminous turquoise effect in certain lights). I much prefer a blue that has a faint degree of purple or grey (but is still clearly solid blue).

not sure if it counts as 'solid' blue but i have a twill shirt from thomas pink that has an amazing luxurious feel and look to it. i would love to get an suggestions on finding a cheaper equivalent because at 185 a pop and considering that my typical work attire is somewhere between business casual and angry hobo, it's hard to justify buying more ...

I'm afraid I don't know the exact fabric of this one. Could be Canclini.

Does anyone else find that ice blue shirts, like NOBD's, are extremely versatile?
-With a dark brown coat, it looks alternately like very light blue and ice gray. Both blue and gray go nicely with brown.

-With a tan coat, it looks like very light blue. Light blue is great with tan.

-With a navy coat, it looks like ice gray with flecks of blue. Ice gray is great with navy.

-With light gray, it looks alternately like white and very light blue: as if both hues were simultaneously melded and sitting side by side. Both white and light blue look great with light gray.

-With dark gray, it has the formality of a white shirt, but the non-severity and depth of a blue shirt. It also doesn't look as ordinary as a sky blue shirt paired with a charcoal coat.

-With a cream or natural coat, it just goes supremely well.

Take the five most versatile shirt colors: white, ivory, cream, sky blue, and ice blue.
-White is very severe and formal, and tends to wash out complexions in the daytime. Not a good daytime shirt for men who aren't high-contrast complected, except in bright sun.

-Ivory is the white that doesn't wash you out, but it doesn't look good with a cream coat: too repetitive.

-Cream isn't as good in the evening as white, ivory, or ice blue. And obviously, it looks bad with a cream coat. Also doesn't look great with light tan.

-Sky blue also isn't as good in the evening as white, ivory, or ice blue. Plus, it doesn't look good with a navy coat: too repetitive. It looks bad with marine blue, and dreadful with Air Force blues and lighter blues.

-Ice blue has almost none of those problems. The only coats it doesn't look well with are marine blue, Air Force blue, and lighter blues for summer, including blue seersucker.

So, if this is right, ivory is the most versatile shirt color, and ice blue is next. A suit-wearing man could be very well dressed with only ivory and ice blue shirts in his closet. Give him one pink shirt to liven up his grays, and a sky blue to wear with his browns or grays on sunny days, and he could be supremely well dressed.

What's your experience?
