Is it inappropriate to wear pocket squares at funerals?

A trivial question, I know, but I thought I'd get some opinions. And if it's not inappropriate, what kind of pocket square would you use? Could anything except for plain white linen fly?

I wouldn't specifically because you're there to mourn not be stylish (unless otherwise stated or agreed upon by family or planning party). Then again, some would argue that if it was your friends funeral, they would want you to dress as you would please. When one of my friends passed, we all dressed the way he remembered us, only made sense.

I think plain white would be fine. The funeral is about the family and very close friends. If you're not in that list then don't wear anything that would draw unnecessary attention to yourself.

I flip-flop on this. The way most SF'ers dress really does have a bit of peacockery to it -- even if we don't want to admit it and clothe the idea in various expressions of noblesse. There is merit to some of those positions, it's true, but a funeral is not the place, I feel, to make that case with the expression. Lately I've worn a solid very dark silk square points down, with a charcoal suit. It's only slightly noticeable. Though white linen is the absolute most classic of squares, with funeral attire I feel it sticks out a little too much for my comfort. ~ H

I wear one. Never thought it would be inappropriate, though I suppose that if you need to think about it, it might be for you.

When I wear a suit I wear a pocket square. I only wear white squares, and I only do a flat fold. So I never think it's innapropriate

White linen square folded flat.

I usually don't wear one to funerals but I have worn a white linen one on a few occasions.
