Hi - Wanted to see how everything is coming along with the project. Is there someone at Alden on the sales / management side that we can reach out to on this? Customer service # at Alden is a bit of a black hole...

You can put me down on the list. I had the good fortune of trying on a pair on the Modified last and agree with the consensus here. Extremely comfortable. Although the Modified last isn't the most aesthetically pleasing last, it is definitely the most comfortable (at least for me). Would like to see more.

I don't understand this at all. I think it is the best looking Alden lasts next to the Aberdeen.

It's hard to say. Sometimes it looks great. Sometimes it looks odd. I think it has to due with the style and the translation to 2D photograph.

I like the look of the Modified last but am uncertain about the sizing. I have Hampton last shoes in 8.5 D but think 9 C would fit better. I can wear Barrie in 8 D (slightly short) or 8.5 D (slightly loose) but I think 8.5 C would work better than either. (I've tried on 8 C and it is slightly too snug all around as well as being slightly short -- in other words, the C width Barrie seems proportioned more like my foot than the D.)

Plaza, Aberdeen, and Leydon do not work in D width in any size. Unfortunately I've not been able to try on any of these in narrower widths.

Do y'all think Modified in 8.5 D might work, or do you think I'd need a C? Is the Modified even made in C width?

+1. Anything other than wadded up newspaper?

Moulded Shoe will modify a standard pair of Alden shoe trees for you. It is a little pricey, but mine fit perfectly.

Would you mind sharing what is "a little pricey?"

You can add me to that list as well. I have high arches, and the pair I recently picked up"”my first and only pair on the Modified last"”are a great fit. Wouldn't mind owning something on that last in shell.

They were $75 / pair. In my experience, it's been completely worth it.

from my experience, the EM500 long nose / narrow width shoe trees from La Cordonnerie Anglaise fits the best with Modified Last (I use them)

Tried on the modified last for the first time yesterday -- I've never tried on such a comfortable dress shoe. Unfortunately though, availability is certain styles is tough to come by or just aren't made (ie chukkas). Have you guys found any other lasts from other makers that are somewhat similar (excluding the unusual Austro-Hungarian brands)?

I am very interested in this last. Everyone says size down a half size, but some say it depends on the shape of your foot. Is it a full half size or is it just a little larger. Has anyone not sized down and been OK? Are you swimming in them or is it just a little looser?

I am also curious what became of this project. The thread seemed to just end with no updates.

I am still looking for the perfect fit. I have a few Barrie and Truebalance. Both a half size down the Barrie is too big in the heal and too small in the toe box. Truebalance is just too big all around. I need to try these on to see how they fit. If they are the perfect fit, I'm definitely in. Anyone know where I can try on some on for size in Southern California?
