This reminds me, I was just in Paris and I came across an incredible shop. I can't remember the name right now, but I will post it later, I have a card. Anyway, it was in le marais and they had an entire collection of Alden Shell modified lasted shoes in three different widths. A lot of flat welts, shortwings, cap toes, and split toe Norwegians. Most of their shoes had different stitching patterns and were either unlined, or lined with canvass. The owner of the shop even had mirror shined all of them. They looked very bespoke. I was very impressed and talked to him for a long time. Apparently Alden is doing it special for only this store.
I know that chart with all of the lasts that surfaced recently had the modified last as being one of the widest. I was sort of blown away by this because I thought that these were the sleekest Aldens I have ever seen. I think it was more due to the tight waist. I was telling him how I have never owned an American shoe before because I am not into the blobbiness, but the waist on these gave them an entirely different look. Perhaps the ones that I was looking at were narrower lasts as well, I don't recall.
I will post an update with the name of the shop, or if anybody else has any information on it please post.
