(disclaimer: about 1% of the cravings I post to this thread will ever be immediately satiated, my food 'dream cart' if you will) Had a few drinks and I could go for a nice bowl of kimchijjigae, needs to be piping hot, pork not too fatty, not too lean, broth a little light, not much heavier than water. Tons of tofu and rice cakes, a little heavier on the ginger, kimchi so ripe you can't have it at home.

Would kill a proper banh mi sandwich. Since I moved, there's no places nearby. Sucks.

Aren't you in the twin cities? I think Nil has mentioned how great some banh mi can be found there.

I'm in DC, actually just outside in Maryland. There are some places on the other side of town in Virginia, but it's a hike for just a sandwich. I shouldn't complain too much, but to spend 1.5-2 hours in the car roundtrip for a sandwich is hard to do.

I thought I remembered eating some good Vietnamese in Bethesda.

Any recollection where that might have been?

I thought it was around the corner from that fakey French place downtown. The reason I "thought" I remembered is because I was visiting relatives there, and I only kind of know the geography.

That would probably be Mon Ami Gabi or Le Pain Quotidien. Both are around the corner from this place called Green Papaya. http://www.greenpapayamd.com/ Look familiar?

Never been there, but maybe I will if it comes recommended.

Ba Le on Rocvkille Pike has serviceable banh mi. The quality has fallen off the last few years, but it comes in handy when you can't or don't want to make the drive to Eden Center. http://www.baleofrockville.com/

It's a very interesting place, a place where "diversity" and "multi-culturalism" mean something much different than in most of the country.

Need some real nasty chili cheese fries right now, been drinking beer. alternatively I'd murder something with mad bean sprouts, just some stir fried sprouts and a lil sauce on rice would do:

Like some place where those heretical Papists have finally begun to be accepted without too much scorn?
