Which SF RTW-wearers do you like as much or more than your favorites (if any) who use bespoke tailors?

This will be unpopular, but here goes: Manton's look . . . requires more money. Cashola.

Well, with respect to fit, you are inarguably correct.

It requires a lot of money to get to your level or Manton's, but money is really the least of it. When you look at say, Spoo, the first thing you notice isn't that he has a low right shoulder.

And there are certainly posters who spend a great deal of money on bespoke who have ahh, exuberant tastes.

People have derided this idea in the past but I am more and more convinced that dressing is a bona fide art form. Like all art forms, the real value is in the contribution of the artist, not the cost of the materials. It is true that people like Manton have a wider palette to work from in that he can have pieces made with fabrics and features that might not be generally available. The irony, of course, is that Manton invariably chooses classic styling that might often be found in RTW. One of the great things about Manton's look is precisely that it is not unattainable. If you had the eye he has, you could do it, too, even if you are getting everything OTR.

I think the solution is for Manton to use his recently-granted superpowers and re-start the conservative business dress thread. It's the perfect antidote for a lot of the angst in this thread. It is, of course, a lot of work for him but it would be useful and amusing to me. And that, of course, is the main thing.

This issue the board has with exuberance and the like is plebeian-esque. If you can afford a good bespoke tailor and don't have to worry about dressing to a conservative standard, then you are most likely quite happy with your station in life. Then again, a little exuberance in your suits is different than having blinged out lapels. Point is, conservative business dress is not the pinnacle of dress or isn't necessarily an Aristotelean mean, har har. Social norms in the workplace preclude my purchase of several pairs of gator skinned lobbs, or else I would wear them with impunity.

But not, of course, when you are wearing one of your perfectly tailored bespoke suits. ;)

No, it's obvious because my shoulders are not evened out with padding. I think people don't notice IRL because they just aren't looking for it but in a static photo it can be very clear.

Spoo's capacity for sartorial skulduggery is something to behold, to be sure, but the deft eye, which I possess but wield judiciously, trains briskly to Manton's superior clothing - his lofty collar, the comely drape of his jacket, the augustness of his metered color pallette.

A closer study, however, reveals the two share an appreciation for that which distinguishes captains of industry, royalty, and quarterbacks betrothed to Brazilian supermodels from the unwashed masses of shoddily-clad nincompoops that litter the formerly hallowed threads of this rapidly twilighting forum.

Right, but that's why it is instructive as a comparison and is part of the reason why I do not agree with DocHolliday.

Look, it's an early litmus test for survival in forvm-land that clothes have to "fit." Name the guy who posts who has as a premise that things don't have to fit. No one, right? This Kool-Aid is in little paper cups at the SF-MC door and everyone drinketh as they enter.

Iammatt has been spanking guys who have adopted the motto but not the result. "No, dude...my **** does fit! I'll prove it...here are more photos!" ORLY? That button is about to pop off and take out an eye, my friendo. And no, it's not different "in motion."

My point goes further. So, everyone drinks the "fit" Kool-Aid...then what?

I think were your analogy is misguided is that the level of participation in MC (or anything for that matter) is different for each person. You may have a desire to spend a majority of your time and a smaller minority (lol) of your assets on bespoke clothing ... chasing (and maybe achieving) the proverbial perfect fit. For others (me as an example) this may be one of a few other interests (money of course being a factor). If an individual feels that in the context of their lifestyles and goals, what they have achieved is as far as they want to go, it does not necessarily mean they don't get it. This is the primary reason why i personally find it unnecessary to have these philosophical discussions about clothes anymore. That and the fact that most of these conversations usually ends in a combination of intellectual dishonesty and grown accomplished men getting whiny and butt hurt because they think they are not being "listened to" This conversation will yield nothing new ... except it will come up again in 4 months.

Btw ... duck before my button pops your eye ...

I don't see why we are comparing bespoke to RTW. Next topic please.

topic #1 was exhausted for now, this topic has at least another 2 pages to go. as a matter of fact, you may have to wait untill tomorrow moring when people start posting fit pics again. maybe.

V or Manton (or anybody really),

What would you recommend for those of us who cannot afford bespoke, or do not live anywhere close to someone who does bespoke work? (in my case, both) Would it be best to buy RTW as best we can rather than try online MTM or doing some sort of cheap bespoke? (traveling tailor)

I will be going to London in March or April, and then again in June or July. (a week each time) Do I have any better option than going to Savile Row and buying RTW?
