You need a plain suit.

Agreed on both counts, though I'm not sure too plain would be the way to go. Something flannel or with a good amount of texture would work. I think double breasted or a three piece would be best, something which hides a lot of the tie. I've seen it mentioned a few times, but with really large scale patterns, you don't want too much of the tie showing so as to avoid overwhelming the fit as a whole. I have a DB that would work in shape and texture, but it might be too close in lightness to the tie to work well. Something I'll try next time I wear the tie (which will be at least 10 months).

Things I like:

- it's a very different, fresher vibe to normal shirt/tie looks. It's a very crisp look/feel; I actually feel "sharper".

- it's vaguely futuristic... or perhaps retro-futuristic might be more accurate, or even quasi-ecclesiastical. I like the "strangeness" a lot. It felt like I should be running some kind of orbital space platform. :D

- obviates the need to think about ties and squares, but in a good/positive choice way not a lazy way.

Things I'm not sure about:

- it's seriously different, perhaps excessively so for my lifestyle, though it hasn't attracted any askance glances so far.

Comments very welcome, either way.

Looks great ... I also love the double-breasted without a tie. I love him even with a nice turtleneck cashmere and silk ... congratulations again. I think it's a good starting point for many people.

Snazzy get up. Liking the cuffs on the trousers. But, it is the bag that steals the show.

more than SF rules Calypso.  I think for anyone's $s,  FU tie + FU square + plain everything else =  verboten :plain: ..   it's a contrived look.  solid tie and no square'd be more tasteful.  Nice jacket, and collar

Change out the square and pants and you might have something. The shirt and jacket work for that tie. If you had light to medium blue wool trousers, I think it would be an excellent look for a difficult tie.

Now that's a tie I can get behind. And that's one bad ass rug.

I wanted to try this look again (pale blue tie with white shirt) but this time with a more sensible tie:

Full fit (Click to show)

Tie is Armani, recently acquired from Spoo. Suit is TM Lewin, recently acquired from... TM Lewin. :-)

So, what do you think? Any feedback here? I like the tie, thought its a hard one to photograph - its quite pale.

I went simple on the PS and everything else. Nothing too "out there".
