I tell you this, leaving SF aside, and talking more generally about what's in fashion, printed ties are going to come back in a BIG way over the next two years. And I don't mean small-scale neats, I mean those mid-size geometrics from the mid-90s and those really large-scale prints from the early 90s (copies/derivatives of the fabled Hermes "scarf ties"). Basically, the kinds of prints SF hates. I bet that you're going to see a lot of them appearing in shops over the next few years. My reasoning is firstly the 20yr fashion cycle, but more importantly, printed women's dresses are really big at the moment and men's fashion will catch that trend up soon. You can see harbingers of this already: Paul Smith has a few, Drakes has loads e.g 1, 2, 3, 4. All those are on nature themes (animals, florals, etc), but I sense that mid-scale (and maybe even large-scale) abstract geometrics will also make a comeback.

It kind of annoys me, because then my kind of ugly tie will be everywhere and I'll have to wear sedate ties until the trend dies back down again. But I''ll use it as a chance to stock up.

Anyone wanting to get ahead of the trend should scoop up nicer examples on eBay/etc now, while prices are still cheap.

This is a good thread. Someone posted a link a few days ago. Vox wrote this, I think, in 2012.

RTC - You need to find the "thoughts on coherent combinations" archive from a Vox.

If you search that on SF, it will lead you to a JRD thread with the link to the archive that you need.

edit - ac beat me to it

One of the best SF threads posted in recent years imho.

This is fantastic betel! You continue to outdo yourself. I don't really have any specific feedback on this besides your own point, it could be nipped in the waist a little.

Anyway, a more general remark: at first I thought you were wearing light olive trousers, and I found it was a very nice alternative to grey trousers. Grey trousers are ubiquitous because they are so versatile, but in fits like these non-grey pants might actually be the optimal choice for once, or at least a good alternative!

That's all from me on this. I'm more interested in seeing what others have to say.

Titsworth paid me to shut up.

This is one of the reasons I've come to enjoy posting both here, and on AAAC. Getting varying view points is very useful. AAAC is surely more eclectic in what it finds stylish, collectively, and in its view toward eccentricity. I find that makes AAAC, and SF, excellent counter balances to one another.

I think SJ is speaking broadly when he suggests you're saying "don't wear the ties". It is the subtext one invariably arrives at: "if you want to do better...don't wear the ties".

Yeah, the first Drakes esp. would be awesome in summer with a mid-blue jacket, chinos and a white shirt.

Liberty has traditionally also been great source for these, although currently they don't seem to have that many on their site. But many of their historical prints are classics of this type.

I haven't opened AAAC in years, but if it hasn't drastically changed for the better then it counter-balances SF no better than a LADA counter-balances a Bugatti Veyron.

Vox coherent combinations should be required reading for all newcomers IMO. Helped me GREATLY.

My louder ties may be one thing, but they ain't 90's geometric bad... that I know. :)

I agree with monkeyface; I'd be inclined to try out cream, or some other off-white varietal, trousers wuthering that SC.
