@bernoulli

I would have though B-school was ties all the time, though perhaps suits all the time too. But shows what I know...

I agree with SB. You'd have to have the SC unbuttoned to see if the blade looks disproportionate. But hard to tell with the coat buttoned. What is certainly true is that the tie does not look skinny, but that's a good thing.

First of all, the boots seem a bit overexposed there. If they're light gray, with a darker sole edge, then they're cool. If they're white and blobby, then I'm not into them. Even still, they're 200% hipper than the rest of your outfit. Like, MMM (sorry if my reading comprehension is off and they're just MMM-ish) is rock star wear -- and what you have on there is too square for them, and too dark. I feel like the minimal palette you're doing works with minimal clothing, but not with OCBDs/tailored-y overcoats. Especially if I'm seeing a dark v-neck sweater under there. With some bold color to balance them out, and an overall lighter palette, I think they could look cool. But I think this rig would look cooler with, like, your RL Marlows.

RTC, I like you, but you and I are both still beginners. It behooves us to be snarky only very sparingly.

@clags

Well, when you go out of your way to look at it, you can see the tie is wider than tha lapels. In that sense, its off.

But, at least for me, when you see the fit, it doesnt jump out as being wider than the tie. So in that sense, its ok.

Thats how I see it anyways.

I don't know if that is true about SW&D but I will say that there used to be a lot more attention paid to proportion, color/fabric coordination, body type etc on this side of the fence then there is now. Experimenting is great but what is even better is knowing when an experiment fails and why it fails. Re-hashing this again but if at the end of the day it comes down to simply, "its my money, I like it, who cares" then the point of the forum becomes moot, if it hasn't already.

Well, there's some discussion that is interspersed, even in the past day. I feel more comfortable thinking about these things out loud when long-standing, accessible members post fits, and where they don't mind people like me musing. I'm not sure this thread is the one for that sort of thing, however.

I had hoped that the 20 thumbs thread might create more of a space for discussion, but it is, I think, more of a repository of popular fits from WAYWRN (I think Ed, you tried to initiate some discussion therein though it didn't go any where). ANyway, that thread s certainly worth having and I enjoy looking at it, but there isn't a sustained discussion right now (Noodle's thread was, for a while on ties and shoes but Rudals has graduated and there's less momentum currently Claghorn certainly deserves credit for initiating a lot of those threads. Maybe he just needs to start another?

Still, I enjoy the threads I subscribe to. If discussion cranked up, I might get less work done! And I think we can move on from Stitch's shoes...he likes them, people have spoken, next topic?

I read it exactly as it was intended, but you've been fangirling every single post that was positive and commenting on every negative for all of today.

I have no horse in this race. It just seems like you have a little way too much energy invested in the hemming and hawing of teh interwebz.

You read it as tongue-in-cheek?

Sorry to be blunt, but it pretty obviously was.

post #74335 of 78717

I did read it as such. I was just referring to the fact that he'd commented on every single post here and on SWD about his fit.

I mean, it's like my posting a ridiculous fit on here (which I have done) and expecting everyone to love it. He was trying to ruffle feathers in general and show that CM posters are less accepting than SWD posters and he won.

Was that your motivation, Stitchy? Were you toying with us?

Look dude, I am sure you mean well, and you are probably a nice guy, but I've been holding my tongue for a while, and Ill lay it our for you now.

Odds are that Canta's post was tongue in cheek. I'll be a monkeys uncle if he owns 1 pair of MMM side zips, let alone 3. Following that, SBs post was surely tongue in cheek, and mine was as well, and I have no doubt he got that.

You came here not too long ago, posted some absolutely awful fits, and got torn a new one, maybe two or three. Since that time you have been all over WAYWRN and WAYWT, critiquing fits likes you have an idea of north and south, probably because you got reamed so you think you have free reign to do the same. All the while continuing to post occasional fits that are mediocre at best.

In WAYWT you are by en large ignored in entirety, aside from the feedback you got on that turrble SWD (if you can call it that) fit you posted, and here in WAYWRN where people are a little more genial, you get some back and forth.

Now, legally, you are welcome to say whatever you want about fits here, but as I see it, you have almost no grasp of the existing relationships of posters here and how they interact, and about the same grasp on understanding clothing. You have taken little to no heed to the feedback you get on your fits, you usually end with an excuse about having something in the closet or not spending money or whatever, and you seem to think you have a wealth to share about other people fits.

So, as I said, take a breath, learn the lay of the land, and then maybe I'll take you seriously.
