What kind of Englishman wears brown shoes with that suit?!

(and I am normally a champion of brown shoes, but that suit does seem like it would work better with black)

Edit: If I recall, you are a bit less than average height. I gotta say, that striped suit gives you some inches.

I agree, and the answer is simply the kind of Englishman who has no black shoes with him at all while he is away from home. I do find some of the wardrobe choices I made before leaving for Japan somewhat inexplicable in retrospect and that is one of them*... ;)

In the absence of black, I went for my darkest brown shoes, but I wonder if actually my smoke grey boots or even much lighter mid-brown shoes would have worked better.

*Others include not bring my basic grey suit, not bringing any brown suede shoes, taking a really odd selection of ties... the list could go on. Of course, I am going home this month with a lot more clothes than when I arrived last year. :D

Thank you very much! Ripense is indeed a very good tailor. Not really represented on the Internet by iGents but well worth the trip + he travels around (not to the US though) and his prices are definitely reasonable.

Pink stripes and flowers. Spring is here although the winds are still cold. The flannels will have to stay a few more weeks. I love this jacket.

Green tie friday challenge:

What? What do you mean "too late"?

I like this. Great combo with a grey jacket. I must say that a light blue shirt would have been better here.

Hugo Boss retail is definitely overpriced; they go for $1200-$1500, which I guess is $1100-$1350 US, or something.  They are not the best suits in the world, or anything, but they are good, and they happen to be a good shape for me.  It's actually wearable as is, if I had a job interview, or something, tomorrow.  I didn't have a navy suit, so now I've added an important staple, even if it's just a place holder for a couple of years.

Currently, I need to direct any real money I spend on a suit to a mid-grey for my best friend's wedding.  For that one, I may just go to Suit Supply in Seattle.

As long as it fits well and you like it, it's a great deal! I've found some great suits at thrift stores that I still wear regularly two years later.

It was more of a warning against buying stuff just because it has a low price. In the beginning I did that too, and I ended up regretting it. Now I save up so I can buy something nicer. This means I buy a lot less, but when I buy something I make sure it's exactly what I want.
Anyway, post some nice pics of your new suit!

Anden, why no more full shots? I generally find full fit pics the easier to draw inspiration from.
