Nothing wrong with wearing a solid black tie outside of funereal contexts... but IMO, they work best in such circumstances when there's a contrast to the suit i.e. a non-charcoal grey suit. Otherwise, it really is a bit too serious, to my somewhat flippant eye anyway.
