+1 to all of this.

Rudals, I'd focus on nailing the basics (solid white or blue shirt, white/blue stripes) before playing with colored and patterned shirts. A well executed classic suit, shirt, and tie is never boring.

rtc, that's just not working. Shirt's too dark, tie's too light, jacket fits poorly. Even if we take your word for the color of the pants, they're probably too dark for this combination.

Rudy Nudals, a subtle navy neat as available from Panta, Drakes, and many other sources will work nicely with your subtly patterned shirts and conservative suits:

^ Yup.

I liked the idea of Rudals giving us a budget and other guidelines and the forum picking out some ties for him to buy.

i recommend that he not start with navy neats. if he wears a lot of navy suits, and blue striped shirts, im not sure tripling up on blue is the best place to start. maybe some brown or burgundy or green grounded ties will be a better start.

Nice, as always. Difficult to tell with the photo, but is the collar solid (or a different pattern) to that of the body of the shirt? And is the handkerchief solid or patterned?

Heavens man, you must travel with several steamer trunks! Do you have staff? wink.gif

Thanks. Body and collar of the shirt are the same stripe. Handkerchief is solid.

Thanks! I figured that was probably the case, but sometimes you throw us a curveball, so thought I'd ask. :D

True that. I initially started off with a bunch of navy blue ties. After joining SF, I realized that they don't go too well with navy blue suits. Now, I have none left except for a royal navy blue tie.

Thanks, Sugarbutch. Why the heck didn't I see these when I was on their website last week. At any rate, like Stitches said, I would like to stay away from navy blues.

This is why I asked for you to specify the where, when, and with what. I mistakenly thought your suits were mostly dark gray. If you wear mostly navy suits, similar neats in brown, dark green, and wine/maroon will serve you well. The latter is likely to attract the least attention. Gray grounds will work with white or predominantly white shirts or very light blues, but once you get into even a bit more saturation on a blue shirt, I think there's insufficient contrast unless it's a dark gray.
