I dated a chick who worked there for the better part of 6 months and accumulated a small wardrobe in the process. That was two years ago and not a single piece has survived. And that's not me being a snob, the stuff became literally unwearable for any number of reasons.

I've gotten away from cashmere lately. While I enjoy cashmere blends, the (good) 100% cashmere stuff out there is just too expensive. I bought a couple 70/30 Merino/cash Avon Celli v-necks from STF that worked out great. BB also sells some very thin 100% cash v-necks. The fibers have been good (2 years and no pilling) but the construction is lacking (some bagging and stretching in high-wear areas).

Lately I've been trolling eBay for interesting vintage pieces with cool mixes. Linen/cash, Shetland/cash/alpaca and Merino/linen/silk have been some of the more interesting ones I've stumbled upon. Though I'll admit they are all very cheap and bought in the spirit of experimentation. Wouldn't go that route for anything staple.

Any experience with these or the material for a sweater in general?  Saw a blue one in a store in Montreal a few weeks ago and the color was gorgeous.  I prefer it in a crew neck and it's a bit thick for layering, but I don't layer sweaters under jackets as a rule.

I will return to my SF mode once the weather gets better. Nowadays, I just put on whatever the hell and just go out. I've learned well so don't worry about a setback.

Silk wears warm as a rule, so there's no doubt this will keep you warm. Off the bat I wouldn't buy it because of the pony, but that's purely a personal thing. The color looks cool, a subtle melange. I had a 100% silk cable knit from PRL in a camel beige for years. I ended up spilling something on it that more or less ruined it. As an experiment I washed it in a washing machine. The result was a really cool raw silk texture that I loved. I wore it casually for a long time and just recently parted with it as it no longer fit me.

I don't have any direct experience with tussah sweaters, but I assume they'd wear just as warm as traditional silk. I just wouldn't ever pay retail for a RL sweater. Way too much about the label and not enough about the manufacturing/materials (regardless of whether it's "Made in Italy" or "Made in China").

I've seen some on ebay NWT w.o the badging for well below the retail (which was $250 in Canadian dollars- reason I didn't purchase).  Thanks for your input.  I'm proabably going to try one since it really looked great in person.

Can special request be accommodated at this price point (collar, sleeve type, etc) or are they all the standard?  Thanks.

That's one of their RTW shirts I think. If you can go to about $60, you can get a custom one in their Sky Blue Oxford, which is a great colour & fabric. I don't know what adjustments they offer in their RTW items; email or PM them, I guess.

Colors and patterns are cool.  I like the sock and jacket mix, but the knot size to collar size proportion is off.  In general, I think I larger collar would be better.

I always lean in the same direction.  Right foot forward.  Maybe this year.

i have been having a hard time finding a good v-neck to wear under a SC. as you predicted, the merino wools i got from j crew last year have fallen apart as if they were on a timer for 1 year of use. i think most really thin wools/cashmeres/silks will have a short shelf life. i probably need something in lambswool or something, but not too thick. i have not found anything i like yet.

What size are you searching for?  I came across a Cashmere and Wool v-neck in 9.5 out of 10 condition made for a local tailor here in Dallas, TX.  The color was tan and white size Lg.

I like this, and it helps me as I have some similar pieces. Is your tie navy, or black?

Black, grenadine. There was a moment's indecision where I was going to wear a black knit, but then decided that to wear the grenadine as I hadn't worn it for ages. Also, I thought it looked marginally nicer in suitu [sic].

The black and white shepherds check shirt is causal and shouldn't really be worn with a business tie. It has a bit of identity crisis because the collar is rather formal. All in all, the look will pass unnoticed in any office, or on the street, but as far as having "style" I would give it zero foo.gif 's

I thought a black overcoat went with pretty much everything. Is this not true???
