Holdfast, I like the tie. I'd swap out the shirt...

I agree with the fact it's an extremely casual jacket, but unstructured is about as structured as I'd prefer to go for summer, while still wearing ties...

I will probably also wear it without a tie often, I wonder if this same BD + chinos will do the trick.

Well, I can't speak for Tiralleuer (nor can I spell it) but a cotton jacket is very casual. An unstructured casual jacket is even more so. If you are going to wear a tie with it, wool trousers don't work. Ideally, you want to wear that jacket with an open collar, slim pants, possibly sockless. You like more traditonal cut pants, and there is nothing wrong with that, but they don't work well with that type of jacket. That tie is awkward. And I get a BD shirt with a DB jacket, even though its "wrong" but you have to wear it in a way that shows that you know its wrong, slapping a tie on the shirt and wearing wool trousers just makes for a outfit that is neither one thing or the other.

thanks Ed, much appreciated. Been wearing too much coat and tie and certainly got lost at dressing down. My washed linen chinos are slimmer (wore one of my pairs last friday). I think those and no tie should be optimal. In fact I quite liked how it turned out last week, minus maybe the shoes - should stick to that. About the tie, well, I do like it... go figure.

That is interesting. They're not that way IRL.

The problem for me is the shirt, I don't fancy pink with that outfit. Medium blue would be better, and french cuffs seem a bit formal. I'm not so sure about the trousers, the balance is not that good.
And the jacket could need some steam...

Pants either hiked up too high or hemmed too short. With a leg opening that wide, the hem needs to make contact with the shoes. It can't be floating out in space like that.

Rest assured, the collar points tuck safely under the lapels when jacket is buttoned.

I wore my rubber-soled NSTs today in anticipation of the walk from the car to my kids' camp at the end of half-mile trail. I did not anticipate a freshly mown field with sprinklers on...

Argh!

Pretty casual start to the week:

Just imo, your fits would be great if you slimed your trousers.

This looks much better to me. Nicely done. I think a solid navy tie would look awesome with that combination, even though the brown looks good.
