Just to provide a short background about myself, I'm 23 and I'm from Italy (my family is from Biella, you might (should? biggrin.gif  ) know it for its wool), even though I'm quite a traveller (I'm studying in Paris, and I just came back from London where I spent last semester).

Anyway, being a student I don't wear suits too often (apart from summer internships), but yesterday I had an interview, so I decided to take a picture and join the community (which I've been reading for a few weeks).

Since the interview was for an entry-level position in an investment bank, I decided to wear something 'conservative' and avoid flashy colors and/or mixing too many patterns or colors, so the final output might look a bit "boring", bit I still quite like it.

Cheers!

(I realized the picture is quite dark and the suit looks kinda black, however it's just a 'dark charcoal')

Ciao e benvenuto in questa grande comunità !

Un saluto

This is a nice, affordable option: http://www.landsend.com/products/mens-silver-necktie-bar/id_231119

You can get it for around $25 with one of their frequently available discount codes.

Not $25 and quite overpriced but Kent Wang has what I would call the perfect tie bar.

Suggestion - get a tie bar to clip your tie and thus stop the reverse back blade from peeking out and causing eyebrows to raise. Only for the love of god please don't get one of those wanky little one inch wide ones from The Tie Bar that GQ has splattered all over every single photo layout they ever do!

GQ editor came to my school for a career event and told all of us wearing ties to get one.

I had one raised eyebrow stuck for the rest of the day. Aka I'm not doing that

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I really like that KW tie bar.  I've been eyeing it for a while.  I ended up getting this one from Rugby, but I don't use it much.

Yeah I've got the KW one. It's great, for sure. Falls down a bit but you can bend it. Not a lot of bend, but enough to secure it over a thin to thick tie without ruining it.

That said, I've never worn it out of the house yet.

Thinner in what way? It's pretty perfect. Can take pics from my house when I get home if you want.

I had a very similar one that i found at an antique store..only it was about 3" long, and about as big/thick as a toothpick. I lost it one weekend and havent been able to find a replacement since.

Aah. Ok this is thicker than that. It's a bundle of tooth-pics. I think it's a great size though. And 1.75" is great. I don't want it to cover the entire tie, I want it to slightly pass the middle.

actually using common sense (which i typically lack) it was probably 2-2.5"....facepalm.gif but the thinness is the biggest part for me...it was quite discreet. Shaped the same as KWs though...his is the closest ive been able to find to what i want. But im also too lazy to wear a tie bar anymore. peepwall[1].gif

eBay is your friend Derek. I have a plain one and an 'engine turned' textured one, both eBay bargains in real silver for about $40 each IIRC. They look similar to the ones pictured. Past the mid point of the tie is probably a rough rule of thumb for size, and a decent width too but not so wide as to mistaken for a money clip doing double duty!
