^Thanks! just picked it up from the tailor last week...I think it may need to be taken in just a smidge in the chest. But its perfect for summer...totally unlined and light as a feather.

This. An internet forum like this is a platform that makes discussion about something possible. If you feel like you are here to make actual friends with faceless users (who in your opinion have something like a history or background of posting pictures of themselves) I feel sorry for you.

Post a good fit - cool!

Post a bad one - booo!

No matter who you are.

Stitch does in fact meet up with some of the forum members so they aren't "faceless" posters to him.

Anyone can post pics of themselves if they want feedback. That's the way the internet is. Seems to me that it takes a lot of work to post good pics though.

What's wrong with calling something as it is, regardless of who's posting?  I don't see any complaints from HF or Tirailleur or SB or anyone else when something new and different gets criticised, and nor should there be.  Trying different stuff is essential, as is criticism when it's not quite right.  Endless posts in here of CBD suits, soporific grenadines and plain white squares would make the thread useless, so I like to see some boundary-pushing.  But judging different posters differently for the same thing is ridiculous.  A shiny tight suit with no tie is not usually an SF-approved look.  And nor should it be.    That's not hate, it's consistency.

Anyway, as I said, I'm looking forward to what's next.  All are welcome, and judged the same in my book.  I take plenty with equanimity, and I try to give it out fairly.

sorry, but i have to disagree. when i said LK has history here, i didnt mean that because he has friends, or that because he has been here for a long time, that his style is beyond reproach. as a matter of fact, i have seen plenty of criticism on his fits.

however, while i usually agree 100% with the statement, "good is good and bad is bad" regarding fits, and that it makes no difference if the wearer has been here since 2002 or 2012, it is at times a little bit overly simplistic. especially when it comes to fits that are not your standard MC look.

what i meant was as follows. a fit like LKs on someone who has no past posting history here of such a style, would surely get an awkward reception. because lets face it, its not the norm here. however, for LK it is the norm, and he has proven many a time, that he knows how to wear that style of clothing.

anyone is welcome to try that style, and if they can pull it off well, with consistency, they will get their appreciation. dont think for a minute that LK waltzed into this place all shiny and sparkly and was beyond reproach. im sure he took his lumps when he first started, but he persevered through the knocks, he learned, and he showed that he knew how to dress.

anyone else is welcome to do the same. but when you buck the trend, and post fits here that are far beyond the norm, you can, and should, expect to get some flack until you can prove you have a handle on what you are doing.

iirc, it took people some time to appreciate Tril's look. there are others i cant think of off hand, but when you show up, and are dressing in a way that is clearly different from everyone else, it takes time for people to warm up to it, and for the wearer to show they have a clue as to what they are doing.

I wasn't refering to anyone in particular, just responding to a vibe I've been noticing around here. If people with mutual interests actually meet after posting here, that's really cool! But I don't think it's something a lot of people do.

Yes, that's why I haven't posted that many fits yet...

I think southernstyle probably fits into this category. He was pilloried.

Agree with both Stitch and Mimo.

On the other hand, we can't see anything in that picture. The jacket is mohair and has two sleeve buttons, the shirt is some sort of reddish stripe. That's pretty much it, so there is more at work than "labelking has demonstrated he knows how to skillfully execute the style of his choice." Given the quality of the picture, we can't determine how skillfully it's been executed. That being said, it didn't seem that people were drooling all over the fit; Mimo seems to be reacting more to the lack of disparagement rather than the thumbs--most of which probably derive from LK making a rare appearance (which, by all accounts, would be nice if he did more of) rather than the particular fit. I'd bet if he were to continue posting similar fits with a similar picture quality, the reaction would regress to the mean. If he were to then take fit pictures rather than lifestyle pictures (which do provide a refreshing break from all the fit pictures), there would be a pick up in approval as members respond to his execution.

I'm sorry, I still don't think that flies.  Post it once and it's wrong, post it a hundred times and it's just your style?  No.  I still don't like SS's wearing a suit with no socks because I think it looks like he trod in something on teh way to work and his drying them off in the men's room.   But he also wears some super cool stuff and I admire his individuality.  Some of Tirailleur's stuff certainly isn't classic, and I'm not entirely sure all of it is menswear, but he's cool.  Liking the individual, and even some elements of their style, doesn't mean you can't point to the emperor's new shiny clothes now and then.  Hell, SB or PB will never accept coloured socks, or tire of reminding me, and I'm not accusing them of "hating".

So I get where you're coming from that over time, we just get used to certain people's individuality and stop going on about this or that.  People with strong individual styles like Tirailleur and TTO, for example, with their Tumblrs and blogs and whatnot, are dressing  very deliberately that way - deliberately stamping an image designed to get noticed, and even promote a product.  I guess LK can fall into that category too.

But at the same time, some things are just nasty.  I think TTO is inspirational.  But if he wore a tight shiny suit and no tie I'd call him on that too.  It's not because these things aren't in the traditional template - T's funny hats, Derek's nerd pocket squares and whatnot aren't either.  Individual flourishes are what make it all interesting, and a light-hearted idiosyncracy or consciously obnoxious flourish are totally welcome.  But when something is generally considered beyond the pale for one, it's only reasonable to call it for another.  Or if not, then be a bit kinder to first timers who've seen such things all the time, and can't understand why everyone's being so rude.

In conclusion:  LK's back. "Fuck yeah", to quote DS.  Tight silver suit, stripey shirt and no tie?  Fuck no, from me anyway.

Peace and love to all men. smile.gif
