You could go burgundy without too much difficulty (I will wear a brown belt with burgundy shoes...though perhaps this is a faux pas). Black is probably trickier, but workable, especially with a navy suit or navy jacket/gray trousers. If you are wearing suspenders it's less of an issue since you don't have to worry about the belt.

Photo-shoot of my last suit by Zbigniew Radlicki (Poznań, Poland).
Pictures by Katarzyna Łukowicz.

Two buttons, diagonal pockets, one vent, trousers with braces, plaid cloth by Porter & Harding (glorious twelfth).
MTM shirt with tab collar, paisley tie and Happy Socks. The pocket square is actually a very regular handkerchief I bought during my journey to Minsk in Belarus.

I think that clothes should be presented when "alive" - in motion. This way it is much harder to hide the mistakes made by the tailor but instead you can see the atmosphere evoked by the outfit. In this suit I insisted that the tailor cuts the trousers and the jacket sleeves very narrow. Unfortunately the outcome is a bit unflattering because they are too tight. Other than that I love the cloth even though it is a bit crazy. But then again I had the suit made to present whisky and not to deliver corporate presentations :) I have another suit for that :)

The weather continues to be pleasant here in NYC, and I continue to enjoy it. Decided to give today's boots their last wearing for a while.

Suit - BB
Shirt - Lewin
Tie - BB
Cufflinks - DVVS, NYC
PS - Robert Talbott
Boots - Paul Stuart

Each to their own I guess!

Well, he also started a thread claiming that matching pocket squares and ties were OK as long as you were wearing a contrast collar shirt. That was an interesting one.

me 4. I have more solid brown ties than solid navy ties. Ive paired mine with oxblood shoes, but i feel brown shoes are the best pick...just my 2 centavos.

I think at least one third of my ties are brown. Solid, patterned, striped, wool, silk, linen, cotton you name it. A nice 6-fold dark brown linen Capelli courtesy of member Marblehouse is on its way from Florida right now icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Do people generally match their shoes with their tie or with their trousers/suits?

good question...i dont really pay much attention to matching them with a specific item..more of an overall look. I do find that i prefer some burgundy in something if im wearing burgundy shoes.

Killer. Deets on suit, fabric and shoes? But for the love of God, no duckface!

Thx. Usually roll w/8' but will be rolling back new purchases to 7.75.

In this case, the 8.25 looks perfecto, but is usually to wide on me as I wear a size 10.5.
