Also best not to mix up the A's and C's in my experience.

Umbrella, I think the problem is the black knitted tie.  With a white shirt and grey suit it would be awesome, but it somehow sucks the life out of the rest of your clothes here.  I think that. more than the shirt, is where a little warmth is missing.  I'm not sure knitted is the way to go here - a finer texture would integrate better - but if the knit it must be, then it needs some colour - maybe some kind of burgundy or restrained rusty shade.  But it's the black that's not flying here, I'm sure of it.

(And if it's not actually black, I will just shut up...but it looks it in the pic)

Someone else may say "too city" but I like it. Good looking jacket.

(but your left sleeves needs to be cut at a 10degree different angle, your tie should never get off center EVER, the poof of that pocketsquare is sticking out 3mm too much, and you shouldn't stand with your right index finger pointing out...............just kidding)

This.

Not a huge fan of that tie with that coat, and the PS is not my favorite, but this is much, much better.

Red, sorry to say this is less than ideal. The jacket is lacking in a lot of places. For one it's too short. It's also too tight across the middle, though that effect is exaggerated by the too-high-for-you buttoning point. The shoulders also look quite tight. This jacket may not be terrible to wear unbuttoned with jeans (read: casually), but in this context it isn't appropriate. Lucky for you it's patch-pocket, so it is inherently more casual.

The pants are also kind of all over the place. You would likely benefit from a wider leg opening (which will allow a more natural, clean line to form) and a longer rise (which will reduce the bunching at your thighs and crotch).

I'm not a huge fan of wearing sweaters under jackets, but I suppose this is decent, although the white shirt, navy jacket and navy with white spots tie don't really compliment purple very well. Could have tied it in better with a more flattering tie and/or PS combo. As it stands now it looks like you were cold and grabbed the first thing on top of the pile.

Just my $0.02.

Today. Does this count as 3 pattern or 4 pattern combo?

Interesting indeed, I'm really not getting that!  Maybe it's just the pic, my screen settings or the tie could use being just a shade or two livelier.  But whatever, if it's not as "black" as it looks, I can't see anything wrong with that really.   I think your shirt is perfectly appropriate.  Also I like it.

i dont know the official rule, but i would say 3, as the jacket is a solid, not a pattern.
