Today, I shaved back the sideburns and trimmed the moustache to a slighly less sinister form (it's really shitty weather today, so this an outerwear pic):

I would never do this if I didn't have a certain costume in mind for the lectures I do. I look too much like my old man with a moustache, it is scary.

In previous years I've grown my beard out over winter, but last year I noticed a little too much grey in it, so I haven't done it this year. The fun you're having is tempting me just a bit though.

Thanks! Yeah, now I've gotten used to the new haircut over the past couple of weeks, I definitely prefer it to the old one.

There's always "Just For Men". I use the little comb thingy...

 Pretty awesome suit today BTW.

Glad you like it. Correct regarding the jacket. Works well in warmer weather too.

Only downside is that it wrinkles more than a wool jacket.

I'm losing my hair at an increasing clip, and the one thing that keeps me from being ffffuuuu.gif about it is that I will then have a legit, unimpeachable reason to rock a panama hat in the summer.

The suit is grey, but the triple stripe is tan, hence the brown shoe match. Besides, I'm going to a party at the Whitney, where propriety is expressly NOT a favored value. Tomorrow night is a members' reception at the Met - for that, I'll conform more to proper sartorial standards - maybe . . .satisfied.gif

I think he said he's doing 20s/30s NYC next week; it would fit into that look. Although I think doing a solo of Don't Stop Me Now for his lecture would be even more awesome

Very nice outfit today in all respects. I particulary like that shade of blue in the jacket.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not fond of very dark navy jackets; to me, they always look much nicer when they're just a fraction brighter and fractionally shifted away in hue as well. The same also applies to my preferences in navy suits when the fabric has a overlying pattern, whether that be a pane or stripe. With solid navy suits, very dark navy looks fine, nice even. But add in a pattern and something about the interaction of the colours/brightness (probably some kind of opponency or lateral inhibition effect), causes me to become very picky about the background shade of navy and I need it to be brighter. For example, it took me ages to find exactly the shade of blue I wanted when I got a navy pinstripe suit; most fabrics had too dark a background, making the overall effect drab and "muddy" to my eye.

Thanks. I have to say, it's briefly crossed my mind, but there are some roads I just don't want to go down.  If my hair wants to become grey, I've decided to go with the flow around work with it rather than attempt to conceal it. And if/when it goes totally grey, I'll definitely grow the beard again over a winter, because that will look totally awesome.
