Ended up in discussion about the virtues of the three-piece suit the "good taste" thread yesterday and decided to follow through with today's selection. I now realise that sans the vest this is awfully close to what Sander posted yesterday - which is actually a good thing since he looked great!

@Johnboy: closer pictures will be uploaded as it's a new pocket square from Kent Wang. I think I'm abandoning the full shot anyway as I can't get the lighting down at that distance...just don't have the right lens for fluorescent lighting.
@Lilac: I wish you had chosen a different tie...if you had, I'd be in love with that outfit. Not to everyone's tastes, but well executed and interesting. That tie is too close to the color of the shirt and probably too wide.

@pingson: stop being so tall. And I like your ps.
@caustic: those are some beautiful buttons.

Any chance of me stop being tall went out the window well over 30 years ago...

The button were what sealed the deal for me. Another eBay find!

When I see people trying to wear fedoras more often than not they simply look artificially old fashioned. Awkward and out of place if you will. However you manage to make them look current. Looks great!

The white PS, it's like a knife for the eye.

(the tie knot has a micropenis thing going on. It's thin, narrow and almost too short for me. Bad combo).

It is better, IMHO.  The drape of the suit is beautiful, the tie, that incredible PS, the shirt just right, decent shoes...and the colour tones are just perfect.  You own this thread today; win and a half!  What is with you this week?  If the GT thread don't like this, they need to redefine "good" urgently.

You say it like that would be a bad thing - he's on fire at the moment.  You usual high standard today - that tie's a bit fierce but what the heck.  Just one thing: your PS ran away?

I think a lot of the time that a big check and a striped tie are doomed to eternal war.  But this looks great.  I also see the white PS as a bit of a lazy refuge sometimes, but with everything else going on I think you were right to go for it.  Really, you look good.  I can see you managing some boutique highland golf hotel with a good malt selection and surprisingly expensive breakfasts.

This thread is flying today.  But I'm wearing a polo shirt so I just won't bother. biggrin.gif

My pochette had a momentary erectile dysfunction, which I only discovered after I uploaded the photos to my PC - grrrrr.

My tie today is unabashedly fuschia - perhaps not the most tasteful of shades, but I needed something loud to assist in the wake-up process (still not entirely there yet).

+1 on Lilacord's suede adelaides - very cool shoes indeed.

Perhaps the fuchsia is what's giving your pochette the performance anxiety.  But I'm sure they'll work it out :)

not sure how i feel about this...i havent worn a navy tie/navy blazer together. Is the texture enough to differentiate? thanks in advance for the opinions.

Derek,

I've worn a very similar tie with my navy blazer before. I thought it looked fine. I might have chosen a simple light blue striped shirt in this case, but I think we both would have had the same concept in mind.

I'd maybe swap it around and go for a stripey tie, and solid shirt.  With that lovely PS, I think it would be a perfect blazer look.  I think the problem is that, even with the shade and texture differentiated, the continuous solid  colour base in both items serves to bring the shirt to the forefront.  Which, I think, is where it shouldn't be.  Aside from not really liking the shirt (I just don't like any stripes bigger than a bengal on formal wear, sue me), I just feel that most things work better when the shirt is the canvas and the tie the painting.

I mean, it's fine and certainly not horrible, it's just not...perfect.  It's also been a very high-quality say so far!  As a partial solution, maybe a non-blue PS would help.  But the PS is the pick of the bunch for me.
