DBs are really hard to get right and people have really divergent opinions on how they should fit. But really small changes in the length and the shaping can shift a DB from looking great to looking too boxy or too skirty or whatever. The placement of buttons matters a lot too. I don't really know how to describe or take apart exactly how each element contributes to the overall look, but I think because the lines are so strong and well defined (e.g., one horizontal line running across the bottom of the jacket as opposed to the broken-up bottom of the SB, the long line of the peak lapel running all the way across the body to the button, etc.), misplacing them even a bit can really change the look. Add in the fact that DBs are pretty rare, it's difficult to get a DB in which the wearer looks comfortable and at home. I think the likelihood of getting a great-looking RTW DB are pretty low. Of course I think mine is amazing:
but I remember when I posted it most senior forum members didn't like it.
So anyway, on this particular DB...to me it looks skirty/hippy. But if you can, try and play around with it a bit by pinning it and taking careful note of how the look of it changes when you make it shorter or more waisted. Be very demanding and precise when looking at a DB. Then once you like it, rock it and don't look back.
I was wondering about the scale. I went with this shirt because it's chilly and the fabric is nice and thick (yes, that terminology was on purpose). I can do better on the tie, but I freaking love this thing.
