I figure crests look best when placed all over the tie, not in isolation. But I tend to like my ties to be either super-loud/flashy (and ugly, depending on your POV), or super-conservative/traditional, with very little in between. Your tie very much falls in that middle area of trying to be both soberly conservative and have a flashy aspect. I'm not sure that's an entirely feasible synthesis, to be honest, but that's a wider question I guess. I'd actually put the shoulder stitching on this suit in the same category of trying to send out two very different messages at the same time: sober business suit, but unnecessary decorative stitching (it doesn't look like part of the construction on that particular shoulder type), but obviously that's a much more subtle example and not as noticeable.

Interesting you picked up on the middle-of-the-road nature of the ensemble... Yesterday, I ramped up on the formality with a white poplin shirt, navy twill suit, navy with white pindots tie, white PS with faint purple edging and black punch-toe oxfords. Today, I was actually experimenting with that halfway effect (stripes on shirt, mid-blue tone of suit, logo'ed tie, colourful wool silk PS and chestnut brown punch-toe brogues).

You have a good eye, HF.

catching up with this thread-- these are definitely worth a repost-- great choice, leather and style look excellent. also of note, throat of shoes is closed up nicely when laced up-- good fit and streamlined.

one of my pet peeves is a good lookin/ expensive pair of shoes with the balmoral throat spread open from a higher instep, poor fit overall, doesn't look sharp. Yours look great.

By the way, Stitchy... I'm betting that your decision to strategically hide your scruffy beard/neck area will result in your pics being far more appreciated. Very good call. It will silence your critics.

BRING. BACK. THE. BEARD.

But don't take my word for it. Let's ask Houston Rocket's star shooting guard James Harden how he feels on bringing back the beard.

Does the beard look alright, James Harden? (Click to show)

Even with the neck hair? You serious? (Click to show)

What about all those haters? (Click to show)

Alright, I'm sure Stitch wil bring back the beard. You happy, James Harden? (Click to show)

superb, and that rakish grin must be one hell of a lady killer.

Well, the grin seems to please the one lady that counts...

I think the collar gap had more to do with shooing the dog out of the pic before my wife snapped the pic smile.gif

Thanks all for your kind words. I will be here a bit more.
