Alright, well, I'm one of the few people that likes shirt and tie without a jacket, so I won't give you flak about that, though others probably will. If you are going with that look, you need to make sure you have a fitted shirt (the shirt seems to be billowing a bit at the belt line). The tie needs to go perfectly with the shirt, as you won't have a jacket to pull attention away from it. In this case, your tie is lighter than your shirt, something which is generally a pretty big faux pas. Your pants also need to be very nice (again, no jacket to distract); in this case, it seems like you are wearing old pleated khakis. And your belt looks like it has seen better days.
Black shirts are fine at night, but will rarely look good with a tie.
Avoid pleats (unless you need the extra room)
Lurk around to get a better feel for tie-shirt combinations
Dimple your tie.
New pants, new belt
Keep the Stitchy beard...we need more beards.

How so? The color in the picture isn't really that great, but the pants are a light brown, which I think contrasts the darkness of the black shirt pretty nicely. Same thing for the big white and grey stripes on the tie. Being a large guy, I like dark outfits, they make a few extra pounds go away and gives you(at least where I work) an extra ounce(or two) of authority.

But, keep trying. Most of us have improved by getting savaged here.
@ Claghorn, and stitch, Back to the proverbial drawing board then...
Yes, I'm a big guy, (6'8" and 240lb). Both the shirt and the pants are actually MTM, but they where measured when I was about 12 pounds heavier. I tried the jacket that I have(a black one) and it looked awful in combination with the pants.
Yes, new belt is on order.
Just out of curiosity, why are dark shirts and brighter ties usually a faux pa? Isn't the point to create a contrast, and if so, which of the two is the light one shouldn't really matter, right? Why are black dress shirts so bad?
The reason I wear a shirt and tie without a jacket is that it makes things more formal, which given the level of work dress in this country would make me look rather awkward. Especially where I work now.
Last but not least, thanks for all the advice. As Confucius so famously said: Even a 1000 mile journey starts with a single step.
Maximator.
Ps, When my GF saw the picture of Stitch's outfit at the top of the page, she asked me "Why is there a picture of you(aka me) here" Took her a minute to realize that it wasn't me. So yea, we do have the exact same beard, I guess...

I am 6"8 250 Max so I feel you.. but Im still able to find stuff..not easy though with my 8-9 inch drop.... I feel like I had a basic understanding of color.. being I don't really wear in your face bold colors. I like to keep things simple. Black is so hard to do though and a black shirt really does not work in the day time or with a tie.. looks very bar-mitzvah'ish...its all about experimenting and finding what works for you.. so keep trying friend..

Not making an excuse, but living in China, where the average man is over a foot shorter than you, and at least 70 pounds lighter, it makes things more difficult. Department stores are in 99% of the cases out of the question because the pants are too short. So yea. The only way for me is MTM. Even if I find something that fits around the waist, the legs are going to be way to short.
