I am famously not a tie person, but I think this is a prime example of an outfit that would be stronger without one.

Though I could quibble about about the flower-thing in your lapel in the first fit, you're pulling off both with aplomb. Which, frankly, is impressive.

Today dawned bright, sunny and warm. I concluded with joy that it would become the first linen suit day of the summer:



The clouds darkened toward the end of the morning, the rain started at lunch and by the time I went home it was peeing down. Ah, the joys of summer in Western Europe!

I started making mine on Indochino before I was hit right in the reality when I understood I don't have nearly enough "sprezz" to pull that jacket off.

You look great Sir, I also looked at your other pics and liked the one with the navy trousers and white PS as well.


To Nitpick:
1. straighten/tighten tie.
2. collar bone seems to be sticking thru shirt collar fold on RHS, or collar foleded badly
3. PS edging would be better if it were the colour of the tie.
and so on... (but very minor in the scheme of things)

Derek, re: quad pattern: the funny thing is, the outfit was a bit of a last minute switch as when I got dressed I didn't like the tie I first picked out (a dark brown solid tussah silk). It just felt too bland when in situ, so I picked something darker & more saturated instead... it happened to have a pattern but that didn't even cross my mind. Fortunately it somehow it then all came together. The power of a tie... :)

 

clapeyron: same fit, so must be the pose. I don't really notice the jackets in photos looking slimmer, but I suppose that's because I know how the same stuff actually feels and looks in different angles, so that unconsciously filters my perception of the photos.

 

Citan: thanks. I agree with CruzAzul re: possibly going tie-less with your look today. Tie-less would complement the casual/naturally wrinkly cotton trousers. Undo a couple of buttons to match the funkiness of the jacket, and you're good to go. Wouldn't even bother with a square to be honest.

Yeah I am thinking I agree with Cruz as well! A white, blue, or even pink OCBD would look good with this with some ivory or tan cotton trousers or even maybe some linen. I will experiment with it for next time. The jacket is funky and I think only solid ties really work with it with wool trousers. I may also try dean's suggestion of brown pants, never really thought of that either!

I also like navy or brown trousers with that, Citan. And a good ol' plain white pocket square might be worth a try.

The important thing here is that it's a kick-ass jacket and everything else you wear is just the supporting cast.

I dig the combo. Would also look good with a solid navy suit. When you are standing the shoulders of your jacket are like a roller coaster, but when you are sitting they are straight. Do you have square shoulders and big traps to cause this?

The days of my muscle tone are on their way out haha. I noticed this in the photo as well, not sure why its so wrinkly...theyre completely unstructured, but this is the only time ive seen them like this.

Thanks guys. The flower lapel is one thing I do sparingly. The maroon center really complemented the magenta striping and eggplant trousers. So I just said, what the hell and gave it a go. What would have thrown it off is if I tried to tie in the green.
