Tough to tell from the pic but the suit is a glen plaid pattern. The tie is from Vineyard Vines and has thin silk. To achieve the correct length I need to tie a full windsor.

i want to hate the hat, but actually like it. Not sure about it AND the strongly-checked jacket, though either individually in the look would be fine.

I like this suit (would like it even more with normal pockets) but think black shoes/bag would complement it better. Also, I have an irrational dislike of that kind of glossy/high-shine striped tie. Even though I think I own a couple myself... uhoh.gif

I think the Windsor looks fine with that collar. Honestly I don't get why so much hate for this knot on the forum. Have you tried a double FIH anyways?

Of this is going to piss some people off, but, I did a navy suit, polo shirt and sneakers look.

Well, yeah, but I could also walk around with my fly unzipped and call it sprezzatura.

I'm not saying it looks good, just giving the reason why a fashion conscious individual would wear a button down unbuttoned. It's not just because they don't like button downs, it's evidently because they think it's trendy and cool.

Personally, if I wear a button down collar, I'll wear it buttoned. If I don't like button downs then I wouldn't wear one. If I wear one and have it unbuttoned then I'm either lazy, fashion ignorant or think it's trendy/cool. For most on here I think we can rule out the first two.

Spoo, I love this. Sportcoat is lovely, and it goes very well with the tie and shirt. Very nice.

Thanks! smile.gif Personally, I would dislike this hat with a more modern-leaning suit. I think it suits either more traditional, country or oddball wear (IE: mixed together). I wasn't quite sure about the hat at first; the hight, width or something else seemed off, but, as it was £50, I caved! smile.giftongue.gif

Citan1145, the trousers are the 'tailored' chinos from Charles Tyrwhitt (I love their customer service, and they're relatively cheap!), and are still being sold there, I believe. The SC is CT, too, but not being sold, AFAIK. The only problem, I find, with CT SCs is, that they tend, to be a bit boxy in the waist area; I could always get it taken in an inch. puzzled.gif

Self-masturbatory thanks, to every who gave kudos! smile.gif

a nice look, but please be honest, is there a string or thread between your thumb and index finger of your right hand that is holding open the jacket bottom to give it that blowing in the wind look?
