This has somewhat undermined this thread for me, which aims at getting everything just right, which also is also a cool thing in its own way, but looks very studied and un-French. Right now I am taking the Paris approach .... if one walks with the studied unconcern of a Persian cat entering a crowded salon and keeps the clothes slim and navy, the shirt white and the shoes polished and brown, then everything else takes care of itself, and there are more important things in life (like wine and foie gras) to think about than a millimeter here or there.
Also, although I read this forum a lot and watch this thread in particular, I am always disappointed with how aggressive a lot of the criticism is. If someone has just gone and dropped a grand or more on a new suit and it is a bit too tight or a bit to short or whatever (and I know the warm glow of taking home a new suit), there are more polite ways of letting them know about this deficiency than some of the know-it-all jackal feasts that I have read on this thread which probably leave them looking at that suit or jacket and feeling as though they have just wasted their money on something unwearable and feeling worthless. I feel sorry for those guys, I wouldn't speak to my worst enemy that way, let alone some poor sap who is trying to develop style and taste in a collegiate atmosphere.
I come here to learn, to take inspiration from a lot of what is posted here, rather than speak, if that means I haven't posted 11,480 times in six years so be it. This learning experience is a lot easier if threads remain reasonably on topic, especially because this marriage debate is rather pointless and will ultimately come down to personal preference.

*yawn*

TL;DR

so where's your fit pic?

Really? Some people think that the criticism isn't aggressive enough.

Btw, that was probably the most French post I have ever read on SF. Congrats.

If I was to be exceptionally arch, I'd point out that the debate ended up being more about defining identity & the meaning of personal preference rather than about marriage itself, and that understanding why you prefer something is far more potent a learning experience towards developing a personal style than simply looking at pretty (or not) pictures. In other words, it might help you decide why you find that skinny navy suited french look you mentioned so appealing, which is much more important than just liking it.

But I think my shrink slip is now showing a little too much, so I won't sail such waters and instead return the thread to the safer harbours of more amateur clothes photography. wink.gif

What have I done?!

And to think, all it took was a reference to DELICIOUS CAKE POPS made by MY WIFE.

Seriously, guys, they were delicious. PB, I recommend you get a wife asap to bake these for you on your birthday. I think she found the recipe on Pinterest.

I don't need to marry my girlfriend for her to make me great food. Then again in two weeks when it is my birthday she is going to be in Cambodia.

Monogamy and coupledom don't have to equal marriage. Marriage, in fact, has ruined many a good relationship.

Then I withdraw my thumb. Take that as you will. biggrin.gif

I really like this outfit, especially the tie. nobody else who could wear this tie besides oldog comes to mind, though.

I myself would have opted for darker shoes.

Shirt: Borrelli
Tie: Zegna Couture
Shoes: GG
PS: TF

@pB - I don't think it's the sleeves...it gets pretty tight already when I cross my arms. I have a feeling it's your initial hunch on a shorter jacket + moving the buttoning point and pockets up about an inch with a little bit more of waist suppression in the front.

EDIT:

Mind you, this is already a 38S

The missus and I celebrate our tenth anniversary this week, and we spent the weekend sans sprogs on Tomales Bay. I came across this tribute to o/o and Mrs. o/o in a shop in Point Reyes Station:

PB was talking about something being amiss yesterday and it was driving me crazy, but this is what I think I'm seeing:

You seem to have a slightly dropped right shoulder. The sleeve head pitch is also pretty far off on your right arm (slightly off on your left, but not that bad). This creates a pull and pucker at the armpit. You can see the wrinkles and divot in your armpit much more clearly in the "before" picture. The alterations helped, but I fear the pitch of the sleeve head is just not suited to you and is making for a slightly awkward silhouette that throws off the symmetry and balance of the jacket.

All and all I don't think it's a big deal and think you look good, but I had to put my hypothesis out there.

Thanks, all, for the many comments, today. In reply to ianGP , who wrote, "Yessur! Rockin' that DB! PS deets?", the answer is an old Polo Churchill dot pocket square.
