My guess is that this is by design. Seen a few do this recently. PG comes to mind. For some reason, I like the look.

I know, I was pulling his leg there

For whatever reason I'm not feeling the swelled edges on Banis's herringbone coat. I love it otherwise, and I like the outfit as a whole (at least what I can see). I wonder if it's the herringbone, because I generally like swelled edges on casual sport coats.

Interesting observation, Pliny, for I much prefer CEP's silhouette to sb's in those two images. Generally speaking, I also think that X-shaped fronts create a more athletic figure than do y-shaped fronts, which nearly always look boxy to me and suggest that the wearer may be concealing a paunch. To each his own, of course.

FWIW, I like the cutaway of the fronts to mirror the shape of the lapels, ala Liverano, creating nice sweeping curves like so:

So while I wouldn't call that a "Y" shape, it's not quite the same as CEP's silhouette, where the openness of the fronts looks to have less to do with the shape of how they're cut and more to do with a winched waist.

The difference is between X and )( .

I also prefer the horizontal symmetry of CEP's open quarters. I do think that everything is a little bit too tight but I like the X more than the Y

Haven't decided whether I like the no-break look yet.  May eventually bring the pants out more, we'll see.

I don't think my jacket could be characterized as a Y. It's more like this:
