I don't think you know what you are talking about but I'm not going to go on a back and forth about it. You don't like the way lufty dresses, but he does and he is comfortable wearing his clothes. A lot of "good" dressers here let the clothing wear them.

Powerfully articulate. I like the way you called me a poopy head and then ran off with a cliche. Yes, lufty's clothing wears him because he is an inert mass that just rolls around in his suits.

Comfort and choice are appreciated. If lufty is completely happy with his suits then he is better off than most. But if we are talking about a good fit, then his sartorial choices run counter to that. Very simple.

First of all, lufty has better sense for color and pattern than most here. Second, his "taste" runs to the classic, if a bit overly trad for me, but still tasteful most of the time. Third, while I don't like the sack cut, I do like the natural shoulder and the relative ease that it offers compared to a lot of what is worn here. So he is a few points ahead on that score, even if I think he would be improved in jackets with a little more shape.

There is nothing at all wrong with his gunboat shoes. The only things he wears that are truly terrible are those goddamn jacquard shirts.

I had a gun club check on this morning, but it was simply too humid out.

Speaking of patterns, and somewhat ironic coming from me:

BB (Glen check)
CT (Bengal)
Brookville (Argyll & Sutherland)
Kent Wang (Glen Check)
AE

I am an outsider to this thread and seldom visit here but I am posting regardless.

There are other factors to how and why we wear what we wear. All these shots are out of context of where these individuals spend their day dressed as they are and these discussions don't recognize that we dress as expressions of our personas. Clothes should meld with our personalities as much as our body types. I think many of the observations and criticisms come from too personalized standards of norms.
Picking on Lutvier, there is a progression from his first posts to now and it is all relative and reflective of his career and life style. First posts he was in law school and python boots depict the rebel in law school. At present his focus is developing a professional look appropriate for his place in private practice. His stylistic choices reflect his point of view of an aesthetic that are right for his professional image and the individual he is. It is not possible to judge his aesthetic without an understanding of his objectives. I am using him because he has explained his objectives quite clearly and more than anyone else.

The glen plaid jacket lines up with his sartorial intentions more than the suit. When I look at both jackets I want to reduce every aspect of the jackets 1/2". Not to make it more fitted, just to trim the body so it doesn't look like a structured shell covering his body. The suit looks like it is wearing him or some one was prepping the jacket for a mannequin. There is something deliberate in the suit jacket compared to a more organic, natural feel to the plaid jacket.

Context, as mentioned, is indeed very important. As for color and pattern, it is relatively easy to deal with color and pattern when dressing conservatively. You have to set a lot of restrictions when dressing conservatively, and the less choice you have, the less chance for error really. With that in mind, a rather ungainly green tie comes to mind whenever I think of color choice and lufty. I'll have to go back and search for it, but by no means is can lufty be heralded as a role model when it comes to color choice.

As for classic tastes, I suppose there are different conceptions of what constitutes classic. I have never understood classic as meaning amorphous fits. Also, the 'relative ease of a natural shoulder' is something I don't quite understand. Are you saying the shoulders affords the wearer extra comfort? A slightly structured shoulder is less comfortable? Pish posh.
