Today's combination, in retrospect, doesn't work quite in the way that I had intended. I note that you've the SF-blessed aversion to neckties with reflective surfaces (an aversion that is not universal, as I note from other comments, but definitely part of the culture around here).

Of course, the thunderstorm that was supposed to have occurred this afternoon did not, which obviated the reason for my fit today (damage control to my dry-cleaning bill) shog[1].gif

Great taste level overall, all the items are awesome (including the 3714 icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif) but jacket doesn't fit you well around the chest and that's distracting. Also don't feel that the shoes are a good match for this particular plaid - too sleek and city, brogues would have been a better choice IMO

Thanks GDL - First time out (and probably the last for this Suit). Custom Fit just ain't for me.

Does that collar really come right up to your jawline, or are you deeply tucking your chin in the photo?

Edit: Sorry. I just discovered that you answered that already.

Silly me! I kept thinking, "Is he referring to a suit model--AA?" The only AA I could think of was Ann Arbor, but, surely, he did not mean that! Ha!

Maybe the tie is a bit too rustic with the suit...

I dunno what this means at all-- but hope you liked the pic smile.gif

G Lorenzi was a great place I've seen to get a really cool gift for a gentleman, if you're not looking for a tie, clothing, etc. had I known I would end up checking a bag, I probably would have bought a knife or razor.

I agree with others that your outfits look good in terms of color, composition, patterns, etc. As for the fit, the coats give the appearance that they have been altered for you. They look like a larger coat has been trimmed away to fit your build.
For instance, the length may now be "correct," but the proportions are off. The coat is shorter, but the pockets and buttons are now too low. If you reduce the length of a coat, the pockets and buttons have to come up in a similar proportion. This is something that you just can't do to an OTR coat. I also get the impression that you compromise on fitting either the shoulders or the chest/waist. When your shoulders fit, it looks like the coat has been taken in. When the chest/waist fit, the shoulders look too narrow. Alterations can only take you so far.
I'd be curious to see the results of bespoke or quality MTM for you.
PM'd you back! smile.gif

Seen as you asked, i'd like to offer some hopefully constructive criticism. I'd really like it if you kept things a bit simpler, like the last fit in the charcoal stripe suit, white shirt and silver tie. It was your best fit yet.
Generally speaking, you have fairly extreme proportions being on the shorter and muscly side and I think many of your clothes and even accessories accentuate that even more. The big peak lapels, huge collar rolls, chunky watches etc are what I'm talking about. (BTW I love Panerai just not with suits). Simple might be more conservative and less flashy, but I think it would help keep your proportions in check a bit more. I hope that helps. Cheers, Jason
Thank you and I appreciate it, Jason! Though the big lapels and huge collar rolls may not be an instant fix, that is something I can bear in mind on my future purchases! I will be trying the conservative>flashy approach! This reminds me of a quote I saw on someone's tumblr(I'm forgetting the name now...)
"Details are meant to be subtle. They should be noticed not gawked at."

I do have some other suits that have yet to be tailored - said suits might fit yours/everyones feedback, so stay tuned! For now you'll all just have to deal with my bat wing lapels and ill-fitted jackets wink.gif

I'm not an expert and find it hard enough to choose things I like for myself, but I think zbromer's explanation comes closest, esp. the shoulder/chest dilemma he mentions. Also, I think that heavy shoulder roping does you no favours. BTW, I'm only a fraction taller than you, which makes it really interesting to see how our different builds affects proportions and the different difficulties we have in choosing clothes to flatter us. You clearly either work out or are naturally quite muscular whereas I don't think I've been in a gym since school... laugh.gif
Really? You seem taller! I did just post a rough measurement of myself at another thread and I think my huge drop is causing big problems frown.gif
I'm a fan of roped shoulders(the TF type) inlove.gif but if I had to choose, a neapolitan shoulder fits me best because I do already have naturally big delts.

Hey Ian I don't think the issue is about conserative>flashy. It's mainly about your proportions. There are some people who are walking color clashes and still look good due to knowing what proportions fit their builds. For you being so short and muscular I agree with scaling the proportions down, but don't feel like you have to stop "peacocking" (if that is a word) if it fits you.

Hey T

Love the casual, uber-cool look.

Just not sure about the tightness of the jacket. And it looks tiiiight compared to your other jackets.
