This doesn't work at all for me.. Too dark, two toned shirt(?), tie doesn't complement anything. Overall, the look is muddy and not one that projects confidence or professionalism.

It might work without the tie, but even then it's far too dark for my liking.

I'll try a more plain and skinny tie next time with lighter trousers.

The concept is called color blocking. maybe it's the lighting of the photo because the navy and green seem to go well together.

trendy is never a good thing. ever. if it were, id still be wearing true religions, and bedazzled dragon t shirts and sporting a faux hawk

I know the mid 2000s was a different time, but...

That doesn't make it not look awful. Dark shirt + dark tie = no contrast. Dark shirts in general don't come off well here. Huge tie + tiny collar = tiny-collar-looks-even-smaller. The shirt looks blousy compared to the slim fit pants. All in all it looks off, and not in a way that I could offer something specific which could be done to improve it, but in a way that just requires a "Sorry, try again."

Something I was told to do at the very beginning: Take a look at what's been posted in this thread, then take a look at the pictures of what you're posting, then ask yourself if your offering is of reasonable level to the thread for your skill level. Nobody expects you to be perfect off the bat, or even good off the bat (though certainly there are those who wish it very highly), but there is a certain minimum level to entry. This looks bad by the standards and aesthetics of this thread (As an ahead of time meta: Can we not go back to how the standards and aesthetics have fallen? We did that one recently.) It may be the photos because they're bad too, but having been the guy to wear something similar, I'm going to guess that it's actually the fit which looks bad. This is not a comment on you as a person. It was an attempt. It failed. Let's get over it and move on to the next one. This one really doesn't have anything to start working with. My suggestion is to pick something from the fits here or in the WAYWRN all-star thread which you like, figure out why you like it, figure out if you can emulate it. If not, find more and figure out what bits of things you can put together that sort-of mimic the aesthetic presented by those posters who are or have been considered good. Then look at that and evaluate it. If you think it's up to snuff, post it. If you think it's on the fence or off but you don't really understand why, personally I say post it. In all cases, be willing to fail again.

The top part looks sharp. The colors are great and I like the tie a lot. The jacket, however, looks completely unflattering on your figure. You need a much lower button stance and more open quarters. Maybe even a longer jacket.

Thanks for the feedback - I know I have this problem with a few of my current jackets. The high button stance that is trendy right now really frustrates me because I am not in the high-end market and I often feel limited. Quite often when I've bought a suit/jacket, I have felt like I'm purchasing the idea I want, but that I'm just settling for the actual jacket itself. The fact that I think I need a Tall in a small size (36-38) just compounds the problem.

Any suggested sources for affordable (preferably non-thrifted) jackets/suits with a lower button stance, more open quarters and/or 36 and 38 Tall sizes would be greatly appreciated. (Naturally the styling elements I want are 2 for 3 the ones tailors can't easily fix :brick:)

I see it now. Thanks for the input.

If you're dead set on wearing that shirt, don't wear it with a tie. If you're dead set on wearing it with a tie, make it a string tie. It's going to look like you're wearing a costume no matter what.

We all know what color blocking is. Your shirt is an unfortunate example of it.
