Threadbearer: It seems like the lower edge of the shoulder straps was left too long, so it bunches up there, while the upper edge is shorter and lies flat along your back. That, or the angle at which they leave the yoke. Or some combination thereof. Maybe if you tightened them the bulge would disappear.

You will have to either shorten the elastic bit and/or move the trouserbuttons down, which is what SH did on mine.

Maybe get the button placement on your trousers closer to the front center so they lay down better at the back.
Thank you, gentlemen. I'll probably go with FC's recommendation and ask Thurston to make me a customized pair. (Of suspenders, that is.)
I already had a tailor trim the excess front tabs down to nothing; otherwise I'd have given Butler's recommendation a try first.
even at "events" such as the symphony ... I see guys wearing what you mentioned.
Probably mostly music students. I used to stop practicing at 7:30 and make it to the concert at 7:55, still in jeans and a t-shirt. I never went as far as wearing my usual warm weather practice attire of basketball shorts and a black or heather t-shirt, though.
