Oh, and I stopped by the Tom Ford store and daaaaamn, his stuff is beautiful and fits me perfectly. I was a little surprised to see that most of their pocket squares were machine stitched though.

I'll tell him that you disapprove.

Pocket squares and bright socks are something I think I will have to work up to but, hopefully, I will eventually be able to pull off.  So, with what you said about the knot, would you agree with my use of the double FIH or what do you think would work better? I also picked up two pairs of AE oxfords last night, the players in black and the clifton in a darker brown.  I figured one black and one brown would be a good start, I have a third that I am contemplating picking up in black.
As for pics, sorry, that was a last minute decision to post from the office without a flash and terrible lighting.  Today I will see if my **functioning** digital camera is charged, and if so, see if I fare any better today.

And LOL I read ALOT of the previous posts in this thread and saw several newbs get torn a new one, so I came prepared expecting the same.

In regards to the double FIH, get the basics right first (regular FIH). I'm not a fan of this knot personally as I think it just looks a bit affected and is definitely a SF groupthink thing. Only time I can see it appropriate over a regular FIH is if you are short and you have a lot of tie length to take up. Hope that helps.

If you're going to Vegas, I highly recommend the second place. It's off the strip and features authentic Japanese cuisine and a large assortment of Sake. Definitely among the top 3 Japenese restaurants I've been to.

I hope she wasn't too late for your girlfriend experience. I told her to light a fire under it.

Thanks, The FIH and the half windsor are what I have been using years, I thought I would try to switch it up to something a little different but I guess I'll be going back to them.

Just because you don't like something, it doesn't make it SF groupthink. A double four-in-a-hand is indiscernible from a regular FIH by anyone but us clothes-nerds. It has a handful of positive aspects: It has a slightly larger sized to fill your collar if needed, and keeps the asymmetry of the regular FIH. It's no harder to tie than the FIH. I have one tie that, for whatever reason, it just works better than the FIH. I would be wary of declaring what's classy and not classy, or whats SF approved or SF groupthink.

I say people should experiment and try to figure out what works with them. Most would agree a windsor throws the proportions off a bit, but for us with slightly less luxurious neckwear, maybe we need the size a double four-in-a-hand can offer.
