HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part III - Page 758

An experiment continues...

... I'm increasingly of the belief that if one can find the "right" kinds of "busy-ness" in adjacent patterns, and uses rich enough colours, the visual confusion that results can be a positive rather than a negative. They visually blend rather than appearing as separate items. This is something I mentioned some months ago, but have revisted more recently. Yesterday's look was a toe in the water, using a bold bengal stripe shirt with a houndstooth suit and a moderately patterned tie. I was surprised to see it gather positive feedback from you guys; I was rather expecting a fair bit of flak. Today pushes my little theory a little further down this road, with a complex shirt and tie combination that I'm hoping "blurs together" slightly at a distance. For instance, the effect seems different to me in the close-up and full-length photos below.

(For maximum Pseuds Corner quotation value, the effect I am trying to mimic is the cluttered but warm/gentle feel of a Victorian era drawing room, rather than an elegant or precise modern lounge :) )

I think the patterns on bow tie and shirt and nice match in scale - but I think you need a different PS, one that gives more contrast to the tie.

I dont mind this look, but i think it couldve been done better. maybe a polka dot with the gingham? Not sure. Like I said, I like it, it seems to work....

Holdfast, the one thing that stands out to me is that in the full length photo it looked like you were wearing a camo bow-tie. Curious if its just my mind playing tricks on me...

Otherwise, I find it visually interesting, if not something I would necessarily attempt. At least not to that extreme

Holdfast, don't think it's the patterns so much as the colours that are a bit off. The dark, red-purple paisley jars slightly with the gingham to my (admittedly limited) mind.

i'm surprised i don't dislike this look as much as i do, but i nonetheless do - i don't think there's any way to reconcile the purple gingham to the camo-shaded paisley bow tie.

but props for trying!

If any of you understand the astronomical stress levels associated with getting a 2 year old ready for her first day of school ever, you will forgive these crap self pics. If I asked Mrs. Spoo to do this today, someone would have had to put me up for the night. plain.gif

Holdfast: Thats the wrong bow for that shirt, and I'd say the bow is too big too. Maybe it's just the way the company that makes it cuts their bows but I'd look into a different maker.

Victor: Looking good, how tall are you? The first picture makes you look somewhat stocky which gives me hope in being a shorter man myself. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Spoo: Looks good but its subdued compared to your normal self.

One of my favorite ties youve posted here. And I like the wingtips too...at first I thought they were the new corthays....but nope. Who makes em?

BTW, forgive the underarm ripple. I was slouching sideways during the photo, apparently.
This is where I need to concentrate and build. I think everything else has been something of a distraction to me. These pics give me the focus to seek a navy suit.

Thanks and welcome back.
