Hi, can you elaborate on the latter half of that statement?

Try ordering from them by phone or online for a size that they don't carry. Predatory pricing and overages, manipulation of vendors selling to others, and total disrespect of prospect customers and clients. The blog exists to apease their local buyers with limited size selection only. They restrict fair and legal competition bycoluding with vendors to raise prices whiel at the same time preventing other seller to sell outside EU.

Really? I always thought well of them...

In reply to sartorial_splender's recent post, just thought I'd add to this AS subject.

Two weeks ago I asked if they could make some Hannovers for me, but on a Dainite sole. The next day I asked the same question to the folks at AFPoS, who replied within hours. I decided to order the boots from AFPoS, and they arrived in Milan just 4 days later. Perfect service from AFPoS, and great AS boots.

As yet, the people at Alfred Sargent still haven't even bothered to reply...

I couldn't have illustrated the point better. AS thinks they're doing us a favour by selling us shoes. They have no idea how good AFPOS makes them look.

You're not alone. When I complained about an order of mine that they fucked up (on the EG appreciation thread), a pack of wild dogs descended upon me...LOL. Suddenly it became my fault and of course, Leffot was just the best.

In future therefore we would only be able to sell you AS Country, Sanders, accessories etc and not AS Exclusive standard collection. Since your Radwell order is already in place, we will of course honour this, but sadly after today that will no longer be possible. We hope to be able to continue with our hugely successful MTO SF programme though, since these would be shoes not available elsewhere they would not fall under the rules of any licensing agreement."

I have posted at great length on the AS MTO thread.

I am annoyed enough that I am inclined to simply not give AS my business in any shape or form. Would love to know the details as to how this export ban developed. If Leffot pushed it as a condition for stocking their limited run of exclusive styles, shame on them and a very stupid move by AS because I think they would do better in the US market developing the AFPoS connection. It will be interesting to see how the shoes sell at Leffot at that price point. I wonder whether we will see them discounted at some point. At that price point, I am off to Paul Stuart where there is a much greater variety of options from a range of quality makers. I have also done special orders through PS at reasonable mark-ups.

The solution as I argued in the other thread was to have AS and Leffot develop a line unique to Leffot. That would increase buying options for the consumer and to some extent justify the higher price. If AS is willing to do a limited run of a custom style with a six pair minimum order, I would think the numbers involved with a special order to Leffot would be 18 pairs (assuming a size run of 7-11 with two pair in each size.) Another option would to have AFPoS pricing negotiated with and brought into line with what Leffot feels thay have to ask. AS would charge a standard wholesale cost and all could agree on a standard mark-up for sales in the US. That would at least keep the widest possible buying options available.

I wonder how many SF or AAAC signatures we could round up in a note to AS decrying this decision.

I think it was, initially at least, more about how you had spread that issue all across the thread before even giving Leffot the right to reply.  Very shabby behaviour.

Rightly or not, it looked like you were angling for some leverage to turn the situation to your financial advantage...

Though you have to admit, Fiddler, that you vented pretty harshly before you gave Leffot any chance to respond, and when they did respond, they did just about everything one could reasonably expect to make the situation right.

However, as my earlier posts indicate, that does not make me a blind fan of Leffot. I have purchased from them in the past (two pairs of Corthay) and thought the service was fine. I like the fact that they have given us access to a wider range of high end brands. As noted in my previous posts, I just wish they ordered more stock so as to have more options available in my size. Visiting the shop is more like going to a shoe show, lots to look at and want, but little to buy. I also wish they would schedule their trunk shows on Saturdays as trekking into the city on a work day isn't easy.

If Leffot helped orchestrate the export ban on AFPoS, my opinion is far more soured towards them.

Could you please excuse my intervention into a serious discussion and help me with a trivial question of sizing?

I think about ordering AS Armfield in 109 last, but I do not quite get the sizing. I've read that people use to buy both 99 and 109 in the same sizes as their C&J shoes. I wear 348 in 7.5 which is snug but overall fits me fine due to my narrow heel. However when I bought AS wholecuts in 99 I could not simply put my foot into the shoe. So I wonder whether I should order Armfield in 8? The measurements on the AFPoS site at the same time are not that small for the 7.5. And all the boots' measurements look like I should order them in 7.

So I am in the middle of no idea what to order and to return is not an option for me. Thanks.

have you thought of measuring your foot & emailing Julian with the info ? worked well for me.

FYI I wear the same size on the 109 (6F) and C&J 348 (6E). For the 99, I have both 6F and 6.5F but the half size up is better for me because I have low arches.

I'd guess same size for 109 vis a vis your 348 but follow up with Julian.
