Thank You Gifts

Okay,

I'm going to Montreal and I need two different thank you gifts. One, for my aunt and uncle who are letting me crash at their place the night before the flight (10AM flight with a 4 hour drive from my city, so by staying at their place, I get to get up at 7 not 3.) and another for a friend who's going to show me the tourist spots in Montreal on Saturday the 16th.

Traditionally when I stay with my aunt and uncle, I either give them a bottle of wine or a bottle of vodka. Either Stoli or Goose or a midrange wine (under 40). Obviously, a bottle of Stoli or Goose isn't extravagant, but I'm crashing in the guest bedroom, not moving in.

As for my friend, we've agreed that I'll buy lunch, supper, pay any admission fees and parking fees. Do I owe him a gift? He's not very much into getting dressed up, but I was thinking a scarf from the Bay or somewhere would be a nice idea.

Also, it's my birthday on the 16th, so what kind of rules apply there. If I take him to dinner and we go for drinks, am I expected to pay for each drink? Does he buy the first round and I take over from there? He's a local, so it will probably end up in a dive bar.

I think for drinks you should order a bottle of champagne and then everyone buys a round each from there.
