blisters from Asics Gel Foundation 9

I bought a pair of Asics Gel Foundation 9 yesterday after having them recommended by the running store guy, who did a gait analysis etc on my feet. Wore them for a 6k run yesterday without any problems, but today I felt a discomfort early on around the inside of both heels, and when I finished I had a large blister on the inside of each heel. Is this normal for these shoes? Will they mould to my feet after more wearing? Anyone got any experienmce with these? Thanks A

Blisters shouldn't be normal for any shoes so I wouldn't say this is some fault of Asics or something. They occur because of friction, so something is rubbing or pressing against your heel. It might be that they just need to mould to your feet a little. All shoes need time to adjust to our exact foot size and running trainers are particularly susceptible to that because of the pounding they take (especially if you're running 6k a day the first two times you even put them on). Not quite sure what you mean by the inside of each heel though. They should be hugging your heels comfortably, without your heels sliding around. Do you just need to lace them up tighter? I was getting some blisters on the balls of my feet when I got some new trainers, so I bought these neat teflon frictionless stickers from my local running shop, which you stick inside the shoe where it rubs. They worked great for me, but I can't remember their name. Best of luck

Agreed. Blisters aren't normal for any type of running shoe. Do the shoes feel too big? Also, try running socks made of polyester or a polyester blend. These are what I always use and they can help prevent blisters.

great. i need to get these. i never knew they had these things. i run into blisters with my running shoes all the time. and my leather thong slipper.s

i have never had blisters, but the shoes may be too big. I would go back and tell them this if its a problem of fit. I would say most reputable running stores will take them back and give you another pair of same value.

Pull the insole out from your shoes, line them up against your heel and stand up on them. There should be no more than a finger's width between the front of your toes and the tip of the insole.

Blisters are caused by rubbing - indicating there is movement. In order to secure your heel further back in the shoe, try something like the bunny ears (explained here)

Given that your shoes are very high stability shoes, are you sure that is what you need? It is designed for a heavy over-pronator. The inability for your arch to collapse sufficiently to compress the medial edge of the midsole may cause your heel to pronate, causing the rubbing...

I did this and there is about 1" between the top of my big toe and the top of the insole. That sound way too much. Funny, cause the next size down seemed to be too tight in the store. The guy in the store, who was recommended to me by a friend who does a lot of running, suggested these shoes. He looked at my feet and got me to balance on each foot separately etc. He described me as a medium over pronator, rather than heavy. He also measured my feet using the foot scale thing. The red lines show where I'm getting the blisters. These aren't my feet by the way

Yeah I'll go back to them tomorrow. Still getting the blisters even having taped up the first ones. Amazing, never had any problem with my beat up old Addidas. Thanks for your input guys.

I too am a medium over pronator and ran Running on Asics Kayanos for 4 years and had the same problem. It would take some time to break in a new pair and blisters definately would be involved in the process; they would form exactly there where your pic points out. Although the kayanos offer good support they are quite stiff, dunno how this related to your Foundations. Asics in general run quite wide which may be a problem to some. I switched to Mizunos (wave inspire) a few weeks back and honestly....those shoes are heaven.

Yeah I'll go back to them tomorrow. Still getting the blisters even having taped up the first ones.

Amazing, never had any problem with my beat up old Addidas.

They probably are too big in that case, might want to try a pair on in half a size down. (It should only be that half size). I see blisters like that often when I fit skates, less so runners (I'm a triathlete/hockey player so I work as a technical fitter for these two sports - see too many feet in a day at work...)

Usually this only happens when the shoe is too wide in the heel especially. Like I said before, blisters = movement.

If you are a medium over pronator, I'm not sure why he'd put you into the Foundations.

Without looking at your feet, I'm unable to say for sure what last fits your foot shape best, nor how much stability you need... But I'd say look at the Kayanos, 3010/3020 or even the Kinseis.

If you can find some, I'd say try a pair of Saucony on. I've found the heel to be considerably tighter than Asics (good thing) yet retaining the wider mid foot and toe box. Try the Paramount or the Guide.

never had blisters but i'll start to feel the symptoms (hot spots) after long distances (over 10 miles for me). one thing i would recommend that was mentioned previously are non cotton socks. i pretty much run exclusively in Thorlos and i feel it's that combination, Thorlos and Asics, that has kept me blister free all these years.

Thanks again everyone. I'll see what the store says today. Doubt they'll take the shoes back though. I've had them for a week and have put about 50km on them.

Tried wearing an extra pair of socks and that seems to have cured the blister problem. Thanks for your input guys.

Are you still doing the double sock deal? I do not think you should have to do that if you were fitted for your shoes correctly. Posted via Tapatalk.
