Having become familiar with 'black lip' pearl from custom-knife collecting and some antique items over the years, I must say that it's one of the most spectacular naturally-occurring substances I know of.....
'Black lip' is a darker pearl, with a dark-gray tone, that emits a magnificent rainbow of colors to varying degree as the light and angle varies. I was fighting the photographic lights in trying to capture the real essence in the photos, and can say that they are better than the photos indicate.....
Vintage, circa 1900-1920's set of cufflinks and three studs. The original high-polish is all there, and they may not have ever been used. The pearl insets are actually concave, perhaps to maximize the reflection at any angle....and that done with precision.
1/2" across, and with an articulated link on articulating rings.
Octagonal form, with beaded borders. I see no markings, but likely either silver-plated or with silver content. There wasn't much made, back then, that wasn't to the highest-possible standards.
In a nice, burgundy-leatherette-covered hard-case with nice gold-tone decoration.
There are no flaws, and any such indications are the fault of the lighting and camera!
