Levis 514, raw - Page 9

Are you guys finding that the 514 rigid scraped stretch through the waist significantly over time? I usually wear a 30" waist size, but a 30" for the r514 rigid scraped is way too tight. I have a pair of 514's with the spandex and those fit GREAT. Pretty much perfect. But the same size in 100% cotton rigid scraped is painful.

If push comes to shove I can exchange 30" for 32" waist I suppose.

I've said it a bunch of times, but my rigid scraped 32waists measure about 34.5" now. They stretch but you gotta wear them a few days.

These are back on sale ay Macys.com for 29.99 + shipping. I got a pair, but ended up returning them. I wasn't a fan of that zigzag stitching down the outseam, and felt they seemed to have a fuller leg than my regular 514s. Maybe the raws would shrink up more in the leg than the 1% strech ones do, but whatever.

Also, the ones I recieved did have contrast stitching at the hem, which was good, becuase non-contrast does indeed look atrocious.

I picked up the 514 in rigid scraped but sadly, those had to go back to the store. The 100% cotton fits very differently than the 1% spandex version. The rigid scraped was just too tight in my normal waist size. The 1% on the other hand felt slightly snug at first and after a few wears is ridiculously soft and comfortable. I've said this many times: Levi's really kicks butt no pun intended but it may simply be the 1% spandex blend that does the trick.

i actually gotten mine in the mail about 4days ago. trying to break them in however, the denim is a bit softer than i thought it would be like for raw. the fit is great though!

I got mine about a week ago, the fit kinda sucks in my opinion, the legs are too big and loose, actually my Uniqlo Single wash are perfect in my mind as far as fit. I find the 514s to probably fit someone better with a normal body, or someone who doesn't want the jeans to express any of their ass. In conclusion the fit is mediocre but for $30 who cares.

I since have gotten pbjs and plan on getting another nice pair. I'm just gonna use these as my beater jeans. They've stretched out quite a bit and are really comfortable now. I even have a bit of fading going on, not much, but it's something. I don't wear mine that often. I do sometimes when i don't want to explain myself for wearing slim jeans like pbjs

I love the fit and they make my ass look cute ! Anyhoo, I washed mine recently because they were feeling grimey and I'd spilt beer on them several times one night. I wore them moderately for 3 months, did a cold wash inside out and put them in the dryer (I know this is frowned upon but I wanted shrinkage). I used too much detergent however and they came out really bright and not very faded looking. Like chronoaug, I wear them when I want to just bang around or look really dressed down.

I'm curious to what "really bright" looks like. Post a pic of them. I'm kinda laughing because i'm picturing something that produces its own light, which would be pretty cool.

^^Hmmm, it's not a good thing. They don't really look like dark denim anymore to me. I like them a little better now (a couple weeks post-wash), I think they're just too clean maybe? I heard that putting them in the dryer makes them brighter, but who knows if that's what it is.

I have been wearing these jeans on a daily basis for about 4 1/2 months. I am planning to wash them in about a month or so because they have really stretched a lot. Compared to some of the 1% spandex 514s I can honestly say these are very different (not very I guess but significantly). The fit on the rigid scraped is a little loose on the legs and rather strange at the knee (though the spandex 514s have this problem to an extent). My main gripe with these jeans is the stretch.

When I first got these I had no issue with the fit. I could wear them easily without a belt. Right now I have to really use some belt action in there to get them to stay. I am hoping they will shrink back to normal or else that could get to be annoying. The other issue I had was with the denim which is a little stubborn to take abuse so you really need to wear these hard in order to get them nice.

Now that was the negative side. The positive side is these are unwashed and they behave just like unwashed jeans (though it takes a little more work). After about 3 months I really started to see some good stuff gonig on with them. The honeycombs on these are coming out really well and very crisp. At the bottom of the leg (I cuff) I can definetly start to see a lot of fading along the natural creases caused by a tiny (and I mean a tiny) amount of stacking. I haven't gotten much of a wallet fade but I think it's mostly because I have a very thin wallet and I don't really sit on any abrasive surfaces. I am definetly excited to see how they turn out.

For those who worry about the color, these are definetly very strange. The closest jean I can think would describe the way these work is the Nudies Graycast jeans. These are basically identical in color/fading (NOT DENIM QUALITY). The color grew on me though and I don't regret it.

My final conclusion is these jeans (for raw jeans) are absolutely worth it for the price. If you are willing to put enough effort into it then you will definetly see some results. The denim is of very good quality and I have worn them pretty hard and had no issues with their integrity. If you really don't care much about the unwashed nature of jeans then I definetly would recommend a 1% spandex version of the 514 more (514 is really a great fit). I will definetly post some before and after wash pictures here in about a month (maybe less... It's been rainy lately and they are starting to smell). So if you are interested in these jeans, definetly be on the look out for that.

great review, i do agree that the fit around the waist has really stretched out. im too scared to wash my jeans and dryer them, will just have to make due with some belt action.

The fit of the rigid scraped (100% cotton) vs. the other 514's (1% spandex) are not comparable at all. In the same waist size, the stretch 514's were slightly snug at first and have stretched slightly to fit perfectly in my normal waist size. The rigid scraped in the same waist size was unbearably tight. I wasn't willing to suffer in hopes they'd stretch to the proper size.

Honestly that was probably a good call... There are few things worse than having to deal with pants that you are not comfortable with.

Fit > Everything Else
