Bond, James Bond: What should his tastes (food, wine, clothing, cars) truly be?

In celebration of Casino Royale:

Bond was supposed to be English and have impeccable taste, now he's just a walking commercial, a mere shadow of his former self.

So what should the ideal Bond be:

1. Clothing (watch, suits, shoes etc)
2. Wine
3. Champagne
4. Auto
5. Travel etc etc.

The question becomes whether Bond should be iconically English or a man of taste. I'm an American, but my suits aren't Oxxford. Is it worse for Bond to be English and not wear the Row?

I rarely see top-tier cars as I live in the sticks, but I have seen a Bentley CGT, and I was less than impressed. On the other hand, Astons are, to quote Clarkson, "big slabs of British beef" and really seem to epitomize a Bond car: powerful but austere. I do (not that I'm biased) think his suits should be from the Row -- likely Huntsman or possibly Dege (don't know about Kilgours anymore), for the violent precision of the cut. I'm not qualified to vote on shoes, but I'll vote Breitling for the watch. Wine, well, haven't the Brits always been big on the bold Bordeaux and Cote-d'Or? So that should be the wine. Champagne is very personal, but it can't be a prissy one like Laurent-Perrier, a blanc de noirs would be so much better. And the briefacse should be Zero-Halliburton (but I'll accept Swaine Adeney Brigg). ~ Huntsman

Every Bond fan has his (or in rare cases her) own Bond. I don't think consensus is likely.

Except for the Pinaud Elixir, that "prince among shampoos". And the Taittinger.

I'd say yes, simply for the fact of Savile Row and its traditions being in his own back yard. He has some of the world's best custom tailors at his fingertips in fairly close prox. Same for his shoes.

Connery had:
Lobb Ankle boots I believe as this Bond didn't care for laces
Rolex Sub watch, at the time quite an appropriate choice, I still love the look myself.
All his pants were cuff less which is interesting
His suits were considered to be aggressive at the time
TnA shirts? Ties?
Bentleys originally, but I think the Astons are a much better fit.

What about sunglasses? Peirce had the blue xray lenses... this new guys are cool too... Quantum is a cool movie but I cant figure out what his sunglasses are. Are they the Tom Ford tf19s? The only site I found are on

Compared to when? If compared to the books, maybe... but the Fleming family estate is on record as sying they feel Craig's Bond is very true to spirit.

If you are comparing to the 60's movies, you'd be wrong. The Bond movies were a pioneer of intentional product placement at the level we see it today.

The one thing that irks me is Bond's drink, "vodka martini shaken, not stirred." If that was his drink in the novels, then I can't have a problem with it, as it's Ian Fleming's vision. But I can't see a British agent choosing a vodka martini over a gin one. Plus, he'd probably want it stirred, not shaken.

Well, the latest "Vesper" martini is gin AND vodka, with lillet blanc. I object to the use of Gordon's - seems too declasse.

Bombay is too trendy and Tanq doesn't seem right either. Maybe Martin Miller or Plymouth?
