I would stay away from them. Their website has no photos of their work.
All it has are promotions. Also the photo of the two guys, as well as the mannikin
in the background reeks of late '90s "style"

I used them for the first time for alterations after having a falling out with a previous tailor. Thought they did a nice job. Great service, knowledgeable, and nice craftsmanship. They offer MTM at different price points. Quality looks good as do the wools. They also offer MTM shirts starting at $185. All in all, they seem like a great option and I give them a thumbs up for their alterations.

I curious about Sofio's MTM tailored clothing. I saw a guy wearing a suit from them the other day that generally looked very nice—if the guy had any taste, I bet the suit would have looked even better.

Anybody know makes their garments for them? What are the price points for full canvas garments? What sort of piece goods do they stock—the we site indicates these are mostly Italian, which doesn't bode well for finding something nice and heavy (13+ oz.).

They have 2 MTM lines. Their classic line starts at $895; their executive line starts at $1,195. They also offer what they call "bench grade" which has quite a bit and handwork - supposedly 40 hrs goes in to making his line. I'm guessing it's still MTM, but it's a clear step or two above the executive line. Don't know the pricing but I'm guessing you're looking at $1,400 minimum depending on materials.

The classic line is fused but the executive line has a full floating canvas with some handwork. The alterations I've had done were pretty good. They're not inexpensive but I'd say they're less expensive then Field Tailors - a middle price point I guess.

Thank you. Any insight on the fabrics they carry?

Didn't get a chance to see or feel the fabrics so can't comment. Recommend speaking with Michael, the son. He was helpful in explaining their services and I'm sure he could give you details on the materials.

Their fabric selection is very solid, lots of choices available.

Sofio himself knows what he is talking about when it comes to tailoring.

Like many MTM shops, they take their measurements in house but then ship them off to China for production. Don't see how places like KentWang aren't a superior option in every way, cheaper or same price to take the train up to their NY trunk show for a fitting.

They do lean heavily towards a more "classic" style - request for no-break pants is met with odd glances and grimaces.

The son is sadly mis-informed when it comes to style. The one conversation I had with him where I talked about options for a versatile fall/winter sportcoat (in my mind: textured navy, tweed, brown herringbone, etc.), his recommendation was black wool...

I have a friend who did their MTM for a couple sport coats. The initial return from their production in China was way off, and had to go through 2 rounds of alterations locally at Sofio's. They fit great now, but seems like quite a hassle.
